BETHANY — Nokomis ended Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City High School’s baseball season by handing the Bobcats a 3-2 loss in the Class 1A Bethany Baseball Regional Thursday.
Nokomis edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. CHBC tied the score in the top of the third. But Nokomis came back to move into a 2-1 lead in the sixth.
But here came the Bobcats again, tying the score in the top of the seventh.
However, Nokomis tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Kannon Jones went one for two, scored a run, had an RBI and stole a base to lead the winners.
CHBC outhit Nokomis by an 8-3 count but served up three errors. Hunter Pope finished with three singles while AJ Radloff and Kale Hardimon added a single and an RBI each.
Nokomis, who has won four in a row and is 19-13 on the season, advances to the championship game of the regional and will face another National Trail Conference team in Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City finished the season with a 7-16 record.

At Effingham
Bethalto Civic Memorial scored in the top of the first but Effingham came right back to tie the score in the bottom of the frame then went on to claim a 4-2 victory Thursday.
Wyatt Hayes doubled down the right field line in the bottom of the first to push EHS into a tie.
The Hearts then came back with three runs in the fourth as Andrew Wagoner singled, scoring two runs and an error followed to extend the lead to 4-1.
Jude Traub earned the win on the mound. He gave up two runs and seven hits over five innings, striking out four and walking three.
Wagoner led the Hearts with a single, double and two RBI. Brayden Tucker added the other hit, a single.
Effingham has patience at the plate, finishing with nine walks for the game. Carter Braddy, Max Seachrist and Brody Boehm led the team with two walks each. Brayden Tucker stole two bases.
Effingham didn’t commit an error in the contest.
The Hearts are back in action Saturday, traveling to Centralia for an 11 a.m. contest.
In a freshman game, Effingham was a 3-1 winner over Bethalto.
The Hearts took a 2-1 opening inning lead on a single by Jacob Warner.
Andrew Leonard stepped on the hill in the first inning for EHS. He allowed one run on two hits, no walks and struck out three for the win. Six more pitchers followed, tossing an inning each.
Jacob Warner finished with two singles and two RBI to lead EHS.
