HIGHLAND — Effingham High School could not keep pace with Highland and fell by a 5-2 count in baseball action Tuesday.
The Hearts were the first to get on the board in the second inning when Brayden Tucker singled, scoring one run.
EHS held that lead until the fifth when Highland came back on singles by Braxdon Decker, Carter Holthaus and Blake Gelly to move head 5-1.
The Hearts tallied a final run in the sixth.
Tucker and Max Flack drove in a run each for EHS. Colton Webb went 2-for-4 at the plate with two singles.
Ben Kunz went six innings for Highland. He gave up two runs on five hits, two walks and struck out four as he took the win on the mound.
Carter Braddy got the loss on the mound. He went all six innings, allowing five runs on six hits, one walk while striking out six.
The Hearts will be back in action Thursday, hosting Bethalto Civic Memorial Thursday.
