High School baseball regionals got underway around the area Monday.
Class 1A Dieterich Regional
Dieterich trounced Tri-County by a 14-4 count in five innings in its own regional opener Monday.
Tri-County held a 2-0 opening inning lead but Dieterich knotted the score with two in the second. Tri-County moved head 4-3 in the third. But the rest of the way it was all the Maroons.
Dieterich tallied three in the fourth and finished the game in the fifth with eight runs.
Jackson Icenogle had a big hitting contest for the Maroons. Icenogle had a single, home run and finished with five RBI. Mason Lidy added a double. Gavin Meinhart, Andrew Hall, Dom Ashley and Jaxon Funneman all finished with a single and two RBI each.
Lucas Westendorf tossed the four-hitter for the win. He gave up three walks and struck out four.
In the second contest, Casey-Westfield blanked Martinsville, 14-0.
The Maroons will now be back in action Wednesday facing Edwards County (Albion) at 4 p.m. The second contest will feature Altamont against Casey-Westfield at 6:15.

Class 1A South Central Regional
Brownstown/St. Elmo saw its season come to a close with a 5-2 loss to host Cisne Monday.
Cisne stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead. BSE came back with a run in the top of the second but Cisne retaliated with two in the bottom of the frame. BSE scored its final run in the fourth.
Nolan Wilhour had a single, double and an RBI for BSE while Zayden Gillespie had a double and Corey Hoopingarner a single and an RBI.
Brownstown/St. Elmo ended the season with an 8-15 record.
Cisne will meet North Clay at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday while Red Hill (Bridgeport) plays South Central at 7.

Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M
Moweaqua Central A&M edged Bethany Okaw Valley by a 5-4 count Monday.
Central A&M now advances to face Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Class 2A Paris Regional
Host Paris ran out to a 7-0 opening inning lead on Cumberland and handed the Pirates an 8-1 loss Monday.
The Tigers tallied one more run in the fifth.
Paris’ G. Roush went 6.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit, six walks and striking out 10.
The lone hit for Cumberland was a single by Wyatt Watkins. Watkins also garnered the lone RBI.
M. Hutchings led Paris with three singles and two RBI.
Paris advances to face Effingham St. Anthony at 4 p.m. Wednesday followed by Lawrenceville taking on Marshall at 6.

Class 2A Newton Regional
Flora and Robinson were opening round winners in the Newton Regional Monday.
Flora blanked Vandalia by a 7-0 count in the opener.
In the second contest, Robinson blasted Palestine/Hutsonville, 20-1.
Flora will now face Teutopolis at 4 p.m. Wednesday while Robinson takes on Newton at 6 p.m.
At Kinmundy
Newton came calling and blanked South Central 5-0 in regular season high school baseball play Monday.
The two teams went scoreless through the first four innings before Newton tallied two runs. The Eagles then added on three more in the sixth.
Newton had a 12-hit attack. David Ferguson finished with three singles. Dominic Baltzell and Reed Tharp had two singles each. Baltzell added an RBI. Drake Wolf tallied a single and two RBI while Quincy Fulton and Carter Barthelme finished with a single and an RBI each.
Fulton came on in the second inning and tossed three innings for the win on the mound. He gave up two hits, one walk and struck out two.
Newton will be back in action in its own regional Wednesday facing Robinson at 6 p.m.
South Central was led by Maddox Robb, Zane Montes and Luke Shumate with a single each.
The Cougars will take on Red Hill (Bridgeport) in its own regional Wednesday at 7 p.m.
