SULLIVAN — Teutopolis High School won the championship of the Sullivan Softball Tournament Saturday.
In the opening contest, T-town edged Cumberland, 5-4.
The Pirates took a 1-0 opening inning lead and pushed that to 2-0 in the second. The Wooden Shoes scored a run in the third inning and tied in the bottom of the seventh.
Cumberland moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the eighth but T-town came right back in the bottom of the frame to knot the score at 3-3.
The Pirates then moved into a 4-3 lead in the eighth. But here came the Wooden Shoes again, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull out the 5-4 victory.
T-town finished with seven hits led by Chloe Hoene with a double, home run and an RBI while Kayleigh Zerrusen added two singles, Olivia Wermert a single and an RBI and Kera Hartke a single and two RBI.
Alyssa Tipton was the winner on the mound in relief. She tossed the final inning, giving up one run on one hit, one walk and striking out one. Jersey Gaddis went eight innings, giving up two runs on two hits, nine walks while striking out 10.
Cumberland had three hits, all singles by Ashton Tolen, Jade Carr and Mia Holsapple. Holsapple and Lauren Schnepper had one RBI each.
In the championship game, Teutopolis pounded Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 15-0 in six innings.
The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead. The Shoes then had a two-run third, a five-run fourth and ended the contest with a seven-run sixth.
Gaddis led the way in hitting with three singles, a double and five RBI while Hartke added three singles and three RBI and Malea Helmink had a home run and two RBI. Tipton finished with two singles. Lauryn Shue, Kylie Borries and Mallory Bloemer added an RBI each.
