Effingham St. Anthony tied the City Baseball Series by downing Effingham, 5-2 Thursday at Evergreen Hollow Park in a game heard on 979XFM.
The Bulldogs struck early getting on board in the bottom of the first inning after Henry Brent doubled and Samuel Link grounded out, each scoring one run.
Will Fearday led off by drawing a walk and Brady Hatton was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Brent doubled.
Alex Mayer had a single in the second for the Bulldogs but was left on base.
The Hearts’ Jude Traub drew a walk to start off the second but was left on base.
St. Anthony struck again in the fourth. Charley Spour was hit by a pitch. With one out, Vincent Vogel singled. Will Fearday followed with an RBI single. Vogel came home on a wild pitch and the Bulldogs had putshed their lead to 5-0.
Effingham finally got on the board in the sixth when Colton Webb hit a home run.
The Hearts added on another run in the seventh. Max Flack drew a walk and Brody Boehm reached on an error. Brayden Tucker singled and Wyatt Hayes scored a run with a sacrifice fly. Andrew Wagoner ended up with a single.
Brock Fearday went the distance on the mound for St. Anthony. He gave up two runs on five hits, two walks and struck out nine.
W. Fearday was on base three out of four at-bats. He drew a walk, singled and was hit by a pitch. He had an RBI. Henry Brent had a single, double and an RBI.
Effingham finished with five hits led by Wagener with two singles.
The deciding contest is scheduled today at 7 p.m. at Paul Smith Field. The contest can be heard on 979XFM.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 3-0 opening inning lead and went on to hold off Newton by a 7-6 count Thursday.
The Hatchets banged out 11 hits in the contest. Jackson Gurgel led the way with four singles and an RBI. Koy Morris added two singles and two RBI while Ben Bridges finished with two singles. Wyatt Wetherell added a single and an RBI and Branson Tingley an RBI.
Newton was led by Reed Tharp with a single, double and two RBI, Quincy Fulton with three singles and Drake Wolf with a single, double and an RBI, Carson Barthelme added an RBI.
Branson Tingley ended up the winning pitcher. He tossed the final 2.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, no walks and striking out one.At Newton

Teutopolis edged out to a 3-1 opening inning lead on Olney, Richland County, and finished this one in the fifth by a 13-2 count Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes had eight hits led by Jason Kreke with two singles, a home run and five RBI, Austin Borries with a solo homer and Andrew Probst with a single and two RBI. Carter Hoene also added an RBI.
Aidan Niemerg went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, two walks while striking out two.
The Wooden Shoes improved to 24-4 on the season and returns to action today against Mount Vernon at 4 p.m.

Central A&M came calling and captured a 10-1 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo Thursday.
BSE tied the score at 1-1 in the fifth but Central A&M got back on track with a seven-run sixth and a two-run seventh.
Both teams had five hits and two errors.
BSE was led by Keelan Speagle with two singles and an RBI and Jayce Gillespie with two singles.
Brownstown/St. Elmo dropped to 8-14 on the season and is back in action today at Ramsey.

Tri-County came calling and picked up a 6-3 win over Cumberland Thursday.
Tri-County edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead. Cumberland came back to knot the score in the second.
The winners then tallied two in the third, one in the fourth and finished with one in the sixth.
K. Lee hit a home run and had two RBI for the winners. A. Houlihan added a single and two RBI.
Cumberland was led by Wyatt Watkins with a single and double and Isaac Venatta with an RBI.
