Effingham Sacred Heart Parish will celebrate its Feast Day, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Friday, June 7 at the church. The event will begin with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from noon to 6:30 p.m. in the church. Everyone is welcome to sit with Jesus during this time. Benediction will begin at t6:30 p.m. with a mass at 7 p.m.

A free ice cream social will be held immediately following mass under the church canopy. Cuvler's custard will be provided.

The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus came about as a result of the "great apparition" which took place June 16, 1675, during the octave of the Feast of Corpus Christi, which is the source of the modern Feast of the Sacred Heart. In that vision, Christ asked St. Margaret Mary to request the Feast of the Sacred Heart be celebrated on the Friday after the octave of the Feast of Corpus Christi, in reparation for the ingratitude of people for the sacrifice that Christ had made for them. The devotion ot the Sacred Heart of Jesus is centered around the heart of Jesus as the emblem of divine love.
