Hardee's on West Fayette in Effingham was closed shortly after 3pm Wednesday due to a gas leak.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy said staff members and patrons both had noticed the odor of gas, leading to the decision to summon firefighters. Ameren Illinois personnel was called to the scene to disconnect service until the source of the leak could be determined. No one was taken for treatment.

No word on when Hardee's will re-open.

The call, by the way, was the first for new Fire Engine 576, just put into service.
