Effingham St. Anthony tied the City Baseball Series with a 5-2 victory over Effingham Thursday in a game heard on 979XFM>
The Bulldogs struck early, getting on board in the opening inning. Will Fearday drew a walk and Brady Hatton was hit by a pitch. Henry Brent doubled home a run and the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead.
Brock Fearday kept the Hearts off the bases in the opener, striking out the side.
St. Anthony came back with three runs in the fourth inning. Charley Spour was hit by a pitch. With one out, Vincent Vogel singled. W. Fearday followed with an RBI single. Vogel came home on a wild pitch. Brock Fearday singled and the Bulldogs had taken a 5-0 lead.
The Hearts finally dented the plate in the sixth when Colton Webb hit a home run.
EHS rallied in the seventh only to fall way short. Max Flack drew a walk and Brody Boehm reached on an error. Brayden Tucker singled and Wyatt Hayes hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run. Andrew Wagner finished with a single and the Hearts ended with the loss.
B. Fearday earned the win in the mound. He gave up five hits and two runs, one earned over seven innings. Fearday struck out nine and walked two.
W. Fearday was on base three out of four times at bat. He had a single, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.
The Hearts put only seven runners on base.
The two teams will square off today at Paul Smith Field for the deciding game at 7 p.m. The contest can be heard on 979XFM.

At Newton
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Newton 7-6 in Thursday action during Senior Night festivities.
The Hatchets stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead. Newton came back within one with runs in the second and third. But the Hatchets tallied another run in the top of the fourth.
Newton moved into a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. But Windsor/Stew-Stras retaliated with three runs in the top of the seventh to lead 7-5. The Eagles mounted a rally with a run in the bottom of the seventh only to fall short.
Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with 11 hits. Jackson Gurgel tallied four of those hits, all singles. Koy Morris added two singles and two RBI while Ben Bridges had two singles. Wyatt Wetherell added a single and an RBI and Branson Tingley finished with an RBI.
Newton was led by Reed Tharp with a single, double and two RBI, Drake Wolf with a single, double and an RBI, Quincy Fulton with three singles and Carter Barthelme with an RBI.
Gurgel went 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits, two walks while striking out six. Tingley came on to finish out 1.2 innings for the win. He gave up one run on three hits, no walks and striking out one.

Teutopolis moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead and went on to end this contest in the fifth via the 10-run rule by a 13-2 count over Richland County, Olney Thursday.
T-town finished with eight hits and drew six walks. Jason Kreke had two singles, a home run and five RBI while Austin Borries hit a solo homer. Andrew Probst had a single and two RBI and Gavin Addis and Carter Hoene finished with an RBI each.
Aidan Niemerg went the five innings, giving up two runs on four hits, two walks and striking out two.
Richland County dropped to 10-14 on the season while Teutopolis improved to 24-4.
The Wooden Shoes will be back in action today against Mount Vernon at 4 p.m.

Central A&M took a 1-0 opening inning lead. Brownstown/St. Elmo tied the score in the fifth. But Central A&M broke loose with a seven-run sixth and added two runs in the seventh for a 10-1 victory.
Both teams had five hits and two errors.
Leading BSE were Keelan Speagle with two singles and an RBI and Jayce Gillespie with two singles.
Brownstown/St. Elmo dropped to 8-14 on the season and is back in action today at Ramsey.

Tri-County edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead against Cumberland. The Pirates came back with a run to tie the score in the second. But Tri-County added on two in the third, and single runs in the fourth and sixth for a 6-3 victory Thursday.
Cumberland had four hits led by Wyatt Watkins with a single and double and Isaac Venatta with an RBI.
