St. Anthony Beats Paris, Newton Downs Effingham In Tennis Competition

Effingham St. Anthony picked up another high school tennis victory, this one over Paris by a 6-4 count Tuesday.

Four singles wins by the Bulldogs were from Manaye Mossman by a 6-2, 6-0 count, Joey Trupiano 6-2, 6-4,  Jackson Schultz 6-4, 6-4 and Ethan Karolewicz 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, Mossman and Trupiano were 6-3, 6-2 winners at the top spot. Hakman and Karolewicz took the No. 3 doubles, 6-2 ,l6-2.

At Effingham

Newton came calling and handed Effingham an 8-1 loss in Tuesday play.

Newton’s Isaac Street blanked his opponent by a 6-0, 6-0 count at No. 1 singles. Alex Bigard won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Wesley Britton continued the victories. He fell in the opener 6-3 but came back with 6-2, 10-7 counts for the win at No. 3. Brennan Bigard was a 7-6 (2), 6-3 winner.  Kahlin Michl was a 6-0, 6-1 winner. Michael Shamhart then swept the Newton singles matches by a 6-1, 6-2 count.

In doubles play, Effingham’s lone point came from Luca Filippi and Brady Wilson who were winners 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 at No. 1.

Newton then took the next two spots as Britton and Bower combined to win 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4) and Michl-Shamhart were 7-6, 6-1 winners at No. 3.
