South Central and Altamont both had games weathered out but they found a way to play each other, and play they did, as it was a pitchers dual that was finally decided in 12 innings with South Central defeating Altamont 2-1.
Altamont scored a run in the top of the first as the Indians took advantage of a couple of Cougar errors to take an early edge.
South Central would tie the game in the with an infield single off the bat of Luke Schumate in the bottom of the second inning.
Kade Milleville would not allow another run to South Central going the first seven innings for Altamont giving up four hits, one walk, and one earned run while striking out 13.
Trevan Sidwell was at least just as good for the Cougars allowing just one unearned run, two hits, three walks and five strikeouts.
Neither starter would factor in the decision as the game carried late in to the night.
It took until the bottom of the 12th inning that South Central got the walk-off victory. Seth Jones led off the inning with a double. After a fly out to centerfield for the first out, Colton Smith lined a single to left field for the game winning RBI.
South Central had turned to Zane Montes in the eighth and he fired five scoreless innings. Montes allowed a hit while walking three and striking out eight to earn the victory.
Despite taking the loss, Altamont’s Dyson Wagner was also stellar in relief walking two while striking out five, allowing 4 hits and one run in his four and one third innings.
South Central’s offense was led by Colton Smith who had 3 hits including the big hit in the 12th. Maddox Robb had two hits. Luke Shumate had his RBI single in the second. Trevan Sidwell doubled, and so did Seth Jones to leadoff the 12th.
Kade Milleville singled and doubled and Cooper McManaway had a single for Altamont.
South Central is 8-8 on the season while Altamont is now 14-6.
