Effingham Junior High School’s Jared Klingler finished 13th at the Class 3A Junior High State Cross Country Meet Saturday.

Klingler ended with a time of 11:03.8.

“What an incredible time at the IESA State Cross Country Meet,” said EJHS Coach Nancy Ervin. “Jared crushed it, beating both his time and place from last year’s State meet as well as his performance on the same course earlier this season.

“And, the 3A race was the fastest of all four boys’ divisions that day. What an amazing accomplishment and a testament to his hard work and determination. If you combine all of the four boys races, his time was the 27th best out of 886 runners.

“Jared finishes his time at EJHS with an incredible legacy, two individual State medals in three appearances, school records in both seventh- and eighth-grades and the all-time EJHS cross country record with a blazing time of 10:43.98.

“Jared was a key contributor to EJHS boys cross country winning three consecutive South Central Conference championships. He’s left a lasting mark on the program.

“What a run it’s been and the best part, track season is just around the corner. So proud of this kid.”
