Neoga and Effingham St. Anthony advanced in the Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Softball Regional with victories Monday while Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City saw its season come to a close.
In the first game, Martinsville edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 8-7. Martinsville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, tacked on three in the second and two in the third to lead 6-0. CHBC came back with two in the fifth and tied the score at 7-7 in the top of the seventh. But Martinsville won with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
CHBC had seven hits led by Mila Wakefield with a triple and two RBI, Elli Wheeler with a double, Anna Hart with two singles and an RBI, Rhilynn Miller with two singles, Hadley Pope with a single and two RBI and Jadyn Wright with an RBI.
In the second contest, Neoga trounced Findlay Okaw Valley, 16-1 in three innings.
Neoga edged ahead 1-0 in the opening inning, then had a six-run second and finished the game with a nine-run third.
The winners tallied 13 hits led by Kinzie Bell with a single, double, home run and two RBI. Lucy Haarman and Kelly Will added two singles and three RBI each. Ellie Plummer finished with a single and two RBI while Nora Hartke, Mackie White and Kyndall Mars had a single and an RBI each.
White was the winning pitcher, going all three innings. She gave up one run on three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two.
In the third game, St. Anthony ended host Sigel St. Michael’s season with a 17-16 edge.
The Sharpshooters moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead but St. Anthony tied in the second. The Bullpups then busted loose with an 11-7 second inning to lead 12-8. But St. Michael came back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and moved ahead 16-12 in the sixth.
But, here came St. Anthony again, scoring five runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the win.
Reagan Niebrugge hit a triple, a home run and finished with two RBI for the Bullpups. Mary Hoke added three singles and an RBI while Taylor Hueber had two singles and two RBI. Kynleigh Doty added a single and two RBI while Luci Monical finished with a single and an RBI.
Huebner tossed the four innings, giving up 12 runs on two hits, 13 walks and striking out five.
St. Michael was led by Brianna Niebrugge with a single and four RBI, Kennedy Andrews with a single and two RBI, Taylor Monroe with a single and an RBI, Lynn Robertson with two RBI and Josie Niemerg and Paige Tarter with an RBI each.

Class 1A Albion Regional
Oblong and West Salem advanced in opening round play of the Albion Regional Monday.
Oblong edged host Albion 13-12 while West Salem easily won over Hutsonville, 10-0.
Oblong advances to meet top-seeded Dieterich at 4:30 p.m. Thursday while West Salem will face No. 2 seeded South Central, also Thursday, time to be announced.
Class 2A Altamont Regional
Altamont advanced in its own regional by edging Vandalia, 5-4 Monday.
Altamont moved into a 2-1 opening inning lead. Vandalia came back to tie the score in the fourth but Altamont tallied one in the bottom of the frame to lead 3-2. Once again Vandalia tied in the top of the fifth 3-3. But here came Altamont with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Vandalia mounted another comeback in the seventh only to fall short.
Altamont had seven hits led by Teegan Burrus with two singles and two RBI. Blakely McClellan added a single and two RBI.
Blaire Suckow went the distance on the mound. She gave up four runs on nine hits, two walks but struck out 10.
Altamont advances to meet top-seeded Pana at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Greenville trounced Hillsboro by a 12-2 score. Shelbyville Moulton ended St. Elmo/Brownstown’s season with a 13-1 win.
Greenville and Shelbyville Moulton will play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Class 2A Altamont Regional

Class 2A Robinson Nuttall Regional
Teutopolis and Red Hill (Bridgeport) both captured opening round victories at the Robinson Nuttall Regional Monday.
T-town edged Lawrenceville Parkview, 3-2 in the first contest. The Wooden Shoes moved into a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Parkview came back to take a 2-1 lead in the third.
The Shoes tied the score in the bottom of the fourth and scored a run in the bottom of the fifth for the win.
Both teams had five hits. T-town was led by Kennedi Hartke and Sophia Grunloh with a double each. Addisyn Meyer added a single and an RBI while JoJo Schmidt had an RBI.
Payton Ruholl came on in the fifth to pitch. She allowed two hits, did not give up a walk and struck out two for the victory.
Red Hill blanked North Clay by a 13-0 count. North Clay ends the season with a 3-13 record.
Teutopolis advances to face top-seeded Robinson Nuttall at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday while Red Hill takes on No. 2 seeded Jasper County at 6:30.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional
Marshall and Casey-Westfield advanced in the 2A Casey-Westfield Regional.
Marshall was an 11-8 winner over Paris Mayo in the first game.
Casey-Westfield then trounced Hume Shiloh, 14-0.
Marshall advances to meet top-seeded Cumberland at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Casey-Westfield will now face Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 6:30 p.m.
Class 3A Mount Zion Regional
Mattoon was a 10-8 winner over Tolono Unity in the 3A Mount Zion Regional Monday.
Monticello blanked Charleston 14-0 and Mount Zion was a big 17-2 winner over Stephen Decatur.
Mattoon advances to face top-seeded Effingham at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Monticello and Mount Zion will square off at 6:30 p.m. also Thursday.
