Area tennis players have put together a strong performance in day one of competition at the state tournament yesterday.
St. Anthony’s Manaye Mossman and Joey B Trupiano are 3-0 after defeating Bayel Muktar and Nazar Muktar of Crystal Lake South in round one 6-2, 6-0. In the second round the duo picked up a win over Evan Villinski and Louis Vu, of Mundelein Carmel 6-2, 7-6 (3). In their final match of the day Mossman and Trupiano defeated Tyler Luchinski and Ryder Perry from Champaign Centennial 6-2, 7-5.
Next up is a quarterfinals matchup against Wyatt Jurgensmeyer and Jordan Beck from Mascoutah at Arlington Heights, Hersey.
Also in doubles competition Oliver Lee and Noah Thompson from Teutopolis started of with a round one win over Elmhurst Timothy Christian’s Elliott Tandy and Timo Kacian, 6-1, 7-5. In the second round it was a loss for the T-town doubles team as they fell to Mattoon’s Dalton Short and Will Pullen 7-5, 6-1. However the duo bounced backed for second and third round consolation wins defeating Chad Carlson and Leo Kostov of Arlington Heights St. Viator 6-0, 7-5. They then defeated Jack Widger and Evan Seegert of Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge 6-4, 6-3.
Next up is West Chicago Wheaton Academy’s Eddie Dykema and Elliot Poland in a fourth round consolation contest at Rolling Meadows.
Colin Habing of T-town has gone 3-1 in singles play as well. It was a round one victory over Parker Kim from Normal U-High 6-2, 6-2. A round two loss at the hands of Yash Kaushik of Chicago Payton 6-2, 6-0 sent Habing to the consolation bracket where he picked up wins over Nathan Miller from Chicago Brother Rice 6-2, 6-1 and then Jerseyville’s Dax Goetten 6-0, 6-2.
Habibng’s first opponent today will be Tyler Batt of Johnsburg At Wheeling.
Newton’s Isaac Street bounced back after a opening round loss to Zeke Boldman of Crystal Lake South 6-3, 6-3 to win three straight to move into today’s action at Wheeling against Grant Fleming of Highland. Consolation wins came against RJ Macasaet of Chicago Heights Marian 6-0, 6-0. Kyler Dennis of Flora 6-2, 6-3. Then a 6-4, 6-3 win over Marc De Vandiere De Vitrac of Chicago Lycée Français de Chicago.
Team Standings after day one have Teutopolis in a tie for 7th while St. Anthony is tied for 20th.
