The Effingham Athletic Department runs an Athlete of the Month program each month. Athletes are nominated by head coaches and then voted on by all coaches. Winners receive recognition, a plaque, and a Treign Athlete of the Month shirt. Nomination criteria is as follows: Stats, Accomplishments, Character, Coachability, Leadership, Sportsmanship

Abby Johnson – JH Track (8th Grade)

Abby is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached. Her work during the off-season has set her up for great success this season. She has broken the school record for the 1600 during the second meet of the year, which happens to also be her 2nd time ever running it in a meet. She then went on to beat the 800 school record the very next day. She has broken her own 1600 record three times and now has the record time of 5:14.81. I’m so excited to see what she can do the rest of the meets and what she will do in the post-season. Keep up the amazing work and dedication, Abby! I’m so proud of you! — Coach Nancy Ervin

Henry Haarman – JH Track (7th Grade)

Henry is currently the top 7th grade boys thrower in both shot and discus, and runs the 200 and 4x200m Relay at meets. Henry works hard at practice and does what is asked of him to the best of his ability. He still has room for growth in all of his events, but his work ethic and determination are what helps him to continue to succeed and get better as the season has progressed. — Coach Aaron Adams
