 Area Teams Advance After First Round Of Seventh-Grade Volleyball Regionals

Seventh-grade volleyball regionals got underway Saturday around the area. Following are how area teams did in each regional:

Class 1A Grayville Regional

Newton St. Thomas and Altamont Lutheran advanced in the Grayville Regional with victories.

In the opening match, Sigel St. Michael saw its season come to a close with a loss to Martinsville, 25-20, 25-19.

Newton St. Thomas then defeated Grayville, 25-19, 25-12.

Altamont Lutheran then won over Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-13, 25-18.

The regional continues Tuesday with West Salem against Martinsville at 6 p.m. followed by Newton St. Thomas and Altamont Lutheran meeting at 7 p.m.

The winners will advance to the regional championship Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 1A Chrisman Scottland Regional

Windsor and Stewardson-Strasburg were opening round winners in the Chrisman Scottland Regional.

In the opener, Philo St. Thomas won over Findlay Okaw Valley, 19-25, 25-14, 25-14.

Windsor then defeated Hume Shiloh, 25-14, 25-10.

Stew-Stras was a winner over Homer Heritage, 25-8, 25-23.

Philo Thomas will now meet top-seeded Chrisman Scottland at 6 p.m. today while Windsor and Stewardson-Strasburg will square off 20 minutes after the first match.

The winners will advance to the championship match Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Nokomis ended Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City’s season. Nokomis won the opener 27-25. CHBC fought back to take the second set 25-21. But Nokomis won the match 25-17.

Elli Wheeler led CHBC in kills with six and digs with seven. Brinley Gill had five aces. Brooke Tucker led in assists with five and also had seven digs.

In the second match, South Central defeated Altamont, 25-14, 25-6.

St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Effingham St. Anthony, 25-18, 25-19.

Top-seeded Morrisonville will meet Nokomis at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday while South Central and St. Elmo/Brownstown square off 20 minutes after that match ends.

The winners then meet Thursday for the regional championship at 6 p.m.

Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City — Tucker, 2 kills, 1 ace, 5 assists, 7 digs; Wheeler, 6 kills, 2 aces, 7 digs; Prater, 2 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs; Sarver, 1 ace, 1 assist, 1 dig; Wells, 1 kill; Gill, 5 aces, 3 digs; Wakefield, 3 aces, 2 blocks; Stoldt, 2 assists

 

Class 7-2A Oblong Regional

North Clay was the lone team to advance in the Oblong Regional.

North Clay defeated Dieterich 25-22, 26-24 in the second match of the day.

In the opener Oblong won over Neoga, 25-21, 25-22.

The third contest went to Albion over Hutsonville, 25-14, 25-7.

Casey-Westfield and Oblong now meet at 4:30 p.m. today while North Clay and Albion squaring off 20 minutes after that match. The winners then meet for the championship Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 3A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis advanced along with Jasper County and Cumberland in the T-town Regional Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes won over Lawrenceville Parkview, 25-9, 25-6.

Paris Mayo then defeated Robinson Nuttall, 25-17, 25-13.

Jasper County downed Red Hill (Bridgeport), 25-14 25-10.

Cumberland was a 25-15, 25-17 winner over Marshall.

Top-seeded Teutopolis now meets fourth-seeded Paris Mayo at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by No. 2 Jasper County against No. 3 Cumberland at 7 p.m.

The winners will meet Thursday for the championship.

 

Class 4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham came out a winner as four matches were played at the Taylorville Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs defeated Mattoon, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21 in the second match of the day.

Kynlie Rohr led in kills with 10. Sophia Wiedman and Alivia Lauritzen led in aces with four each. Rosie Schmidt had 18 assists and also led in digs with 12.

Taylorville was a 25-6, 25-15 winner over Stephen Decatur in the opener.

The third match went to Chatham Glenwood against Mount Zion,. 27-25, 25-12.

Rochester downed Charleston 16-25, 25-22, 25-15 in the final match.

Effingham will now face Taylorville at 5 p.m. today while Chatham Glenwood takes on Rochester 20 minutes after that match.

The winners will advance to the championship contest Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham — Gouchenouer, 7 kills, 2 aces, 1 assist, 3 digs; Schmidt, 3 kills, 1 ace, 18 assists, 12 digs; Hartke, 3 kills, 3 aces, 7 assists, 10 digs; Rohr, 10 kills, 3 aces, 2 assists, 9 digs; Wiedman, 5 kills, 4 aces, 1 assist, 5 digs; Lauritzen, 8 kills, 4 aces, 1 assist, 8 digs
