 Junior High Volleyball — February 26 Results

COWDEN — Effingham St. Anthony and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split junior high volleyball victories Thursday evening.

CHBC was a winner in the seventh-grade match, 25-17, 25-22. Elli Wheeler led the team in kills with seven and digs with five. Mila Wakefield led in aces with four. Brooke Tucker had seven assists.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony fell in the opening set 25-21 but came back with 25-12, 25-17 tallies for the match.

CHBC was led by Anna Hart with seven kills, Jacey Sears with 10 digs, Hadley Pope with 12 assists and Alyson Lawrence and Reece Vaughn with two aces each. Vaughn and Halee Goeckner had one block each.

At Cowden

Seventh-Grade Match

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City — Tucker, 2 kills, 3 aces, 7 assists, 2 digs; Wheeler, 7 kills 1 ace, 5 digs; Prater, 1 ace, 3 digs; Sarver, 1 ace, 1 assist, 2 digs; Wells, 1 kill, 1 dig; Gill, 1 dig; Wakefield, 4 kills, 4 aces, 1 dig; McCoy, 1 assist

Eighth-Grade Match

At Toledo

Cumberland handed Effingham losses in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.

Cumberland won the seventh-grade match, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22.

Effingham dropped to 13-6 on the season.

Effingham was led by Anna Gouchenouer with 14 digs, two aces and 10 kills. Lillian Weishaar and Kynlie Rohr had two aces each. Mia Hartke led in assists with 12. Weishaar and Alivia Lauritzen had one block each.

In eighth-grade play, Cumberland won 25-21, 20-25, 25-19.

Kendyl Smith led the Mustangs with eight kills and three aces. Kenley Moore had 16 assists and Arabella Barnhart had 12 digs.

The Mustangs dropped to 8-13 on the season.

At Toledo

Seventh-Grade Match

Effingham — Gouchenouer, 10 kills, 2 aces, 14 digs; Weishaar, 3 kills, 2 aces, 1 block, 3 digs; Young, 2 assists; Ring, 1 ace; Hartke, 2 kills, 12 assists, 4 digs; Rohr, 1 kill, 2 aces, 7 assists, 10 digs; Wiedman, 1 kill, 1 assist, 2 digs; Rodebaugh, 1 kill; Lauritzen, 10 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, 6 digs

At Newton

Teutopolis traveled to Newton St. Thomas and claimed wins in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes won 25-21, 25-21 in seventh-grade play. T-town finishes the regular season with a 14-9 record. They are the No. 1 seed in Saturday’s regional tournament, hosted by the Shoes.

T-town then won in the eighth-grade contest, 25-18, 25-17.

The Shoes finish 7-16 in regular season play. They don’t return to action until next Saturday when they head to Lawrenceville for regional play.

 

At Louisville

Neoga and North Clay picked up a victory each Thursday.

Neoga claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-19, 25-22.

In eighth-grade play, North Clay was the winner, 25-13, 25-9.

North Clay is back in action Saturday in the first round of the Class 7-2A regional hosted by Oblong and will face Dieterich at 10 a.m.
