HEYWORTH — Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School’s outstanding season finally came to a close in the Class 1A Heyworth Volleyball Super-sectional Monday evening.

The Hatchets fell to Cissna Park, 25-22, 25-11.

“We are sad to see the season end but wish Cissna Park the best of luck at State,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “We knew it would be tough to get through tonight.  They have some nice athletes that were just hard to defend. I didn’t feel we hit as strong as we usually do, but a big block takes that away.

“I’m still so proud of the girls this season. They’ve accomplished more than I ever expected they would have. We are very blessed to be able to say we made super’s again.”

Zaida Wascher led the Hatchets with seven kills while Mya Friese had two aces and 10 digs. Brinlie Durbin led in assists with 13. Brooke Schumacher had four block assists while Zoey Conder had two solo blocks.

Windsor/Stew-Stras ends the season with a 29-12 record.

Cissna Park advances to the Class 1A State Tournament and will meet Tremont at 10:30 a.m.  Friday. In the opener, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield will take on Stockton at 9 a.m. at the CEFCU Arena in Normal.

The winners advance to Saturday to play for the State championship at 10:30 a.m. while the losers will play for third place at 9.
