ARGENTA — Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School moved into the Elite Eight after downing Heyworth in the Argenta-Oreana Volleyball Sectional Thursday.
The Hatchets fell in the opening set 25-19 but rallied to come back and take the second set 25-17. WSS then won the championship 25-21.
“Wow, I didn’t think we were going to pull that one off,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “We didn’t have as solid of a game as we did Tuesday. Our offense didn’t run smoothly and we had more errors.
“We came back and played better in the second set to force a third set. Heyworth changed up their offense and had us scrambling for a bit before we got control toward the end. It was a battle though.”
Mya Friese led the Hatchets in kills with 18 and digs with 13. Brinlie Durbin had 20 assists. Zoey Conder led in block assists with six.
Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 29-11 on the season and will be back in action Monday at the Heyworth Super-sectional facing Cissna Park Co-op. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Cissna Park Co-op won the Watseka Sectional over Lexington 25-16, 25-9.
In other super-sectionals it will be Hartsburg-Emden vs. Tremont at Concord Triopia, Okawville vs. Norris City-Omaha-Enfield at Wayne City and Stockton vs. Schaumburg Christian at Woodstock Marian.
