 St. Elmo/Brownstown, Windsor/Stew-Stras Advance To Volleyball Regional Championships

ST. ELMO — St. Elmo/Brownstown moved into the championship match of the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Volleyball Regional Wednesday evening.

SEB handed National Trail Conference opponent Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a loss, 25-18, 25-17.

The two teams took turns with the momentum as SEB broke a 9-9 tie with a run to move into a 19-14 lead. The Eagles then went on for a 25-18 win.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City opened the next set with the lead but the Eagles went on an 8-0 run. The Bobcats came back to pull within 11-6 but the Eagles took the victory 25-17 and the match.

St. Elmo/Brownstown moves into the championship match with a 20-12 record.

Leading the winners were Addie Sasse with two aces and 15 assists, Presley Williams with seven kills, Mya Barker with 10 digs and Alivia Claycomb with one block.

CHBC finishes its season with a 12-22 record.

The Bobcats were led by Gracie Wright with 13 assists, seven digs and one ace, Allison Shields with seven kills, Carissa Wakefield with one block, Timber Watson with seven digs and Ethel Stuckemeyer with one ace and one block.

Opening the evening was South Central and Okawville. South Central’s season came to a close with a 25-18, 25-22 loss. The Cougars end with a 15-15 record.

Sophie Wodtka had seven assists for the Cougars. Bailey Wodtka led in kills with seven. Addisyn Sigrist had five digs. River Yingst led in digs with nine.

St. Elmo/Brownstown and Okawville will square off tonight for the regional championship at 6.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson/Strasburg advanced to the championship match of its own Class 1A Regional Wednesday evening.

Oblong won the opening contest of the evening over Cumberland. The Pirates took a 26-24 opening set but Oblong came back to win the match, 25-20, 25-13.

Alysa Dittamore led in assists with 10 and digs with 11. MacKenzie Claybaugh had seven kills. Leah Gray led in digs with 13. Hannah Shoemaker, Madelyn McElravy and Dittamore had on ace ace each.

Windsor/Stew-Stras then defeated Tuscola, 25-12, 25-12.

“We were missing Brooke Schumacher tonight due to illness but Sophi Greuel stepped up and had a great night,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “Mya had a strong serving night putting down 10 aces. They all came together tonight to take the win.”

Mya Friese led in aces with 10 and digs with seven. Zaida Wascher had 11 kills and one block assist. Sophi Greuel also had one block assist. Brinlie Durbin led in assists with 19.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg is now 26-11 on the season. The Hatchets will meet Tuscola at 7 p.m. for the title.

At Nokomis

North Clay’s season came to a close at the Class 1A Nokomis Regional Wednesday.

The Cardinals fell to Carlyle, 25-16, 25-11 in the second match of the evening.

In the opener, Nokomis defeated Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 25-18, 25-15.

Nokomis and Carlyle will meet for the championship tonight at 6 p.m.

 

At Casey

Arthur/Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and Casey-Westfield were winners in Wednesday evening competition.

The top-seeded ALAH downed Chrisman, 25-3, 25-8. Casey-Westfield then won over Lawrenceville, 25-7, 25-18.

ALAH and Casey-Westfield meet tonight for the regional championship at 6 p.m.

 

In other regional championships tonight:

Effingham and Teutopolis will square off in the Class 2A Effingham Regional title contest at 6 p.m.

Newton meets Olney at 6:30 p.m. in the Class 2A McLeansboro Hamilton County Regional championship.
