 EHS Wins Pink Out, Area High School Volleyball Roundup

Effingham High School came out the winner in the annual Pink Out volleyball contest against Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday evening in a match heard on 979XFM.

The Hearts put together a 25-20 opening victory then came back with a 25-23 tally for the win.

McKenzie Love led the way in kills with 10, aces with three and blocks with three. Berkley Pullen had 25 assists.  Alyssa Martin led in digs with 12.

Cara Hatton had 14 kills for St. Anthony. Madelyn Gilmore led the Bulldogs in assists with 24. Audrey LaSarge had three blocked shots. Lilly Gannaway led the team in digs with 14. The Bulldogs drop to 1-1 on the season and will be back in action Saturday at the Richland County, Olney Tournament.

In junior varsity play, St. Anthony was a winner 25-19, 18-25, 25-16.

Freshman/sophomore competition went to Effingham, 20-25, 25-23, 25-10.

At Dieterich

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came calling and picked up a varsity victory over Dieterich Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets claimed 25-12, 25-13 win to improve to 1-0 in the National Trail Conference, 2-0 overall.

“We are still finding our rhythm and building our confidence but our pieces are coming together,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “The girls are working hard and I love seeing that. Crossroads is around the corner and that is our first true test as to where we are with our team.”

Leading the Hatchets were Kendra Hayes with five aces, Mya Friese with 10 kills and five digs, Brinlie Durbin with 21 assists and two block assists. Brooke Schumacher also had two block assists.

Dieterich was led by Allie Uthell and Bailey Brummer with two blocks each, Kayla Goebel with one dig, Kinley Will with four aces, Lydia Fuesting with three digs and Aliza Garner with three blocks.

Windsor/Stew-Stras won the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-18 to improve to 2-0.

Dieterich claimed the freshman/sophomore match, 25-10, 25-15.

At Newton

Newton swept through all three matches for victories over Altamont in action Tuesday evening.

The Eagles won the varsity contest 25-9, 25-16 to even its record at 3-3 on the season.

Meinhart led in aces with four. Bierman and Probst had eight kills each. Shull finished with 11 assists. Hermann had six digs. Pitcher, Meinhart and Probst had one block each.

In junior varsity play, Newton was a winner 25-20, 25-21. The Eagles also claimed the freshman match, 25-15, 25-17.

Newton is back in action Saturday at the Olney Invitational.

Altamont was led by Avery Fleeharty with five assists, Riley Rippetoe and Laila Hankins with two kills each. Hankins led in digs with eight. Avery Aldrich had three blocks

Teutopolis was a winner in both junior varsity and varsity action over Marshall Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 3-1 on the season in varsity play by downing Marshall. Marshall won the opener 25-22 but T-town came back with 25-15, 25-22 scores for the match.

Gabby Tegler led the Shoes in digs with 22 and kills with 15. Elise Pals had five blocks. Kaylie Jordan had 40 assists. Ella Willenborg had 13 points and two aces.

In junior varsity action, T-town was a winner, 25-14, 25-12 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Wooden Shoes are back in action Thursday hosting St. Joseph-Ogden.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell to Okaw Valley in both junior varsity and varsity competition Tuesday evening.

Okaw Valley claimed the varsity match, 25-23, 25-20. CHBC dropped to 1-2 on the season.

Ethel Stuckemeyer led in kills with four and aces with two. Gracie Wright had 11 assists. Allison Shields and Stuckemeyer led in blocks with one each. Shields and Stuckemeyer had six digs each.

Okaw Valley was a winner in the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-20.

South Central lost to Cisne in two sets Tuesday evening.

The Cougars fell 25-23, 25-16. Maddie Peddicord led in digs with five. Sophie Wodtka had six assists. Bailey Wodtka led in kills with five.

South Central won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-11.

South Central drops to 1-6 in varsity action and 2-1 in junior varsity play.

Neoga tallied a victory over Arcola Tuesday evening.

The Indians won 26-24, 25-17.

Madelynn Frankie led in blocks with two and kills with seven for Neoga. Chloe Frankie had eight assists. Keeli McKay led in aces with two.

Grayville downed North Clay Tuesday.

North Clay won the opener 26-24 but Grayville came back to take the match, 25-17, 25-21.

In the junior varsity contest, North Clay won 13-25, 25-14, 15-12.

The Cardinals are back in action Thursday against Lawrenceville at 6 p.m.

 

At Toledo

Cumberland was a winner over Charleston in Tuesday volleyball competition.

The Pirates won 25-21, 25-17. Jude Miller led in assists with 14. Alysa Dittamore had nine kills and three aces. Hannah Shoemaker led in blocks with three and Leah Gray led in digs with eight.

In the junior varsity match, Charleston was a winner 25-13, 25-15.
