 Effingham Finishes Third In Both Boys, Girls Apollo Conference Track Meets

TAYLORVILLE — Mount Zion won both the boys and girls Apollo Conference track meets Thursday at Taylorville High School.

In the boys meet, Mount Zion tallied 160 points followed by Mahomet-Seymour 149, Effingham 74, Charleston 69, Taylorville 66 and Mattoon 36.

Effingham’s Weldon Dunston won the 100 with a time of 11.15 seconds and defended his championship in the 200 with a time of 22.42.

Max Kistler was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.93 seconds. Blayne Ring finished second in the discus with a throw of 44.36 meters.

The 4×200 relay team of DJ Latham, Chase Starkey, Sebastian Simoni and Dunston finished second in 1:32.62.

Alex Gordon took third place in the 800 in 1:56.83.

The Hearts were third in the 4×400 relay in 3:31.54. Team members were Maxx Kistler, Sam Spicer, Alex Gordon and Jenner Pals.

In the girls meet, Mount Zion won with 183 points followed by Mahomet-Seymour 117, Effingham 98, Taylorville 69, Mattoon 53 and Charleston 34.

Effingham’s Jessica Larsen defended her title in the 800 with a time of 2:22.82 minutes. Emery Spicer took third in 2:27.54.

Larsen also claimed second in the 1600 in 5:27.77 minutes.

The 4×800 relay team of Baylee Summers, Morgan Springer, Drew Weis and Larsen won in 9:53.39 minutes.

In the field events, Keagyn Koenig won the shot with a heave of 11.26 meters for a personal record and broke the school record. The old record was 36-9 1/4 set by K. Mosher in 2009.

Camdyn Burgholzer was second in the 100 hurdles in 17.63 seconds.

The 4×400 relay team of Baylee Summers, Macy Kirk, Emery Spicer and Weis finished second in 4:08.26 minutes.

Burgholzer was second in the high jump at 1.51 meters.

The Hearts also competed in the Jokish-Grandone Invitational at Carterville Friday, placing first overall as a team. They had several top performances including C. Burgholzer placing first in both the high jump and 300 hurdles, E. Spicer in the long jump and M. Springer in the 1600.
