Teutopolis Junior High School seventh-grader Evan Weidner set a new school record in the pole vault at Thursday nights six team home meet against Clay City, Jasper County, Newton St. Thomas Palestine and Shelbyville.
The height of 10 feet, 11 inches makes him the new title holder with 10’3″ attempted just barely clipping the bar. The record had been previously set by now sophomore Jacob Probst.
Teutopolis Junior High won. The Shoes will face Casey-Westfield, Neoga, Sigel St. Michael and Newton St. Thomas at home Tuesday.
The Weidner brothers hold three school records in junior high track.
In 2016 oldest brother Ethan set records in the 400 and 1600m at the Shelbyville Invite. Ethan’s 1600m record still stands which had previously been held by Scott Sandschafer for 29 years.
In 2023 older brother Eric threw 127 feet, 1 inch at the Newton Sectionals capturing that record which still stands.
Evan is the son of Teutopolis coaches Matthew and Jennifer Weidner.
