 T-town Finishes Fourth As Team, Probst/Lee Fourth In Doubles At State Tennis Tournament

Teutopolis High School was welcomed home Sunday with a parade after finishing fourth as a team at the State Tennis Tournament, the highest finish for any area team during the high school  tennis series.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Anna Probst and Abbie Lee who went deep into doubles play.

The pair won in the first round at State over Madison Reade and Kendyl Wassenhove of Geneseo, 6-0, 7-5. They then downed Madeleine Smith and Morgan Smith of Richton Park Southland College Prep Charter, 6-0, 6-1. In third round play, the pair won over Alexia Conine and Callie Zhao of Winnetka North Shore Country Day, 6-1, 6-1. They claimed the next victory over Jenna Remke and Julia Lukey of Woodstock Marion, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (5).

In the semifinals, they fell to Maya Krasney and Jordan Cohen of Deerfield, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. In the third place match, they lost to Shir Paz and Anna Dickson of Deerfield, 6-1, 6-4 to finish fourth.

Adi Davidson and Allie Ruholl also competed for the Shoes in doubles play. They won their opener over Charlotte McEvoy and Lainey Laughton of Lake Forest 6-4, 7-5 before dropping their first loss to Kennedi Taylor and Natalie Beck of Glen Carbon Father McGivney, 6-2, 6-2. They won in the second round of consolation 7-5, 6-1 over  Abby White and Leah Range of Jacksonville. They exited the tournament with a third round consolation loss to Alondra Espino and Megan Ardaugh of Joliet Catholic Academy, 6-3, 6-2.

Avery Probst competed in singles for the Shoes. She won her first two matches over Maysen Pethoud of Sycamore 6-0, 6-2 and Jordan Cheng of Woodstock Marian 6-4, 6-3. She then fell from further tourney play with losses to Addy Filipiak of Darien Hinsdale South 6-0, 6-0 and Elaine McNamara of LaGrange Park Nazareth Acadeyy, 6-3, 6-3.

The Wooden Shoes finished sixth as a team with 17 points. Winning was Deerfield with 36 followed by Dunlap 28, Lake Forest 22, Darien Hinsdale South 20, Vernon Hills 20, Teutopolis, Chicago University 14, Troy Triad 13, Chicago Latin 17, Glen Carbon Father McGivney 10 and Woodstock Marian 10.

Effingham St. Anthony had two doubles teams competing.

Ellie Link and Mia Kinkelaar made it to the fifth consolation round. The pair won their opener over Lila Ezell and Avery Olson of Sycamore 6-0, 6-0 then downed Lara Burca and Eloise Khoury of Chicago Payton, 6-2, 6-1. They lost to Isabella Gusso and Katherine Brewer of Dunlap 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4). They came back to beat Alondra Espino and Megan Ardaugh of Joliet Catholic Academy, 6-1, 6-2. They exited the tournament in the fifth consolation round losing to Hailey Goins and Teodora Savic of Darien Hinsdale South, 6-5, 7-1.

Liv Hoene and Nora Trupiano won their opener over Alexis Keener and Samantha Pilgrim of Chicago Payton, 7-5, 6-3. They fell to Alexis Nilles and Katherine Nilles of Maroa-Forsyth 6-3, 6-3. The pair then won back-to-back matches. They defeated Madison Reade and Kendyl Wassenhove of Geneseo 7-5, 7-5 in the second consolation round and downed Gabi Pecoraro and Addie Cortese of Normal University 4-6, 7-6 (6), (10-2).

The pair then fell to Katie Watts and Hailey D’Aunoy of Troy Triad, 6-1, 5-7 (10-8) to exit the tournament.
