 Area Players Compete Extremely Well At State Tennis Tournament

Area players did extremely well at the State Girls Tennis Tournament Thursday.

Teutopolis High School’s Anna Probst and Abbie Lee went unbeaten on the day. The pair won over Madison Reade and Kendyl Wassenhove of Geneseo, 6-0 7-5 before downing Madeleine Smith and Morgan Smith of Richton Park Southland College Prep Charter, 6-0, 6-1. They then beat Alexia Conine and Callie Zhao of Winnetka North  Shore Country Day, 6-1, 6-1.

The pair enter the quarterfinals and will take on Jenna Remke and Julia Lukey of Woodstock Marian at Buffalo Grove today.

Avery Probst won her opening two matches in singles play. She downed Maysen Pethoud of Sycamore, 6-0, 6-2 then won over Jordan Cheng of Woodstock Marian 6-4, 6-3. She fell against Addy Filipiak of Darien Hinsdale South, 6-0, 6-0.

That drops her into the fourth round consolation against Elaine McNamara of LaGrange Park Nazareth Academy today.

Adi Davidson and Allie Ruholl won over Charlotte  McEvoy and Lainey Laughton of Lake Forest, 6-4, 7-5. They fell to Kennedy Taylor and Natalie Beck of Glen Carbon Father McGivney, 6-2, 6-2.

The pair came back to win over Abby White and Leah Range of Jacksonville, 7-5, 6-1 before exiting the tournament with their second loss, this one to Alondra Espino and Megan Ardaugh of Joliet Catholic Academy, 6-3, 6-2.

Effingham St. Anthony’s Ellie Link and Mia Kinkelaar claimed two victories in doubles action.

Link and Kinkelaar won their opening match over Lila Ezell and Avery Olson of Sycamore, 6-0, 6-0 and then downed Lara Burca and Eloise Khoury of Chicago Payon, 6-2, 6-1.

The pair then fell to Isabella Gusso and Katherine Brewer of Dunlap, 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4). That dropped them into the fourth round consolation where they will face Alondra Espino and Megan Ardaugh of Joliet Catholic Academy today.

Liv Hoene and Nora Trupiano won their opener over Alexis Keener and Samantha Pilgrim of Chicago Payton, 7-5, 6-3. They fell in the second round to Alexis Nilles and Katherine Nilles of Maroa-Forsyth 6-3, 6-3.

The duo bounced back to win over Madison Reade and Kendyl Wassenhove of Geneseo, 7-5, 7-5.

They will face Gabi Pecoraro and Addie Cortese of Normal University today in the third round consolation.

Newton had two singles players competing and both picked up two losses each to exit the tournament.

Jailyn Hall lost to Kruthi Ramanath of Urbana University, 6-0, 6- before dropping the second match to Evelyn Johnson of Crystal Lake Central, 6-0, 6-0

Olivia Sornberger lost to Abigail Harris of Bethalto Civic Memorial, 7-5, 6-0. She then fell to Shreya Patel of Morris, 3-6, 6-0 (10-1).

The tournament continues today and will finish out with the finals Saturday.
