 Hayes Tosses One-Hitter As Windsor/Stew-Stras Wins, Altamont, Newton Lose In Softball

Samantha Hayes tossed a one-hitter as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Nokomis 7-0 in high school softball Monday.

Hayes went six innings, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out 12. Hayes needs just six more strikeouts to move her career total to 600.

The Hatchets finished with eight hits and were aided by six Nokomis errors.

Zaida Wascher had a single, double and three RBI for the winners. Ellie Wittenberg added a double.. Clarissa Johnson finished with two singles. S. Hayes added a single and an RBI and Katelyn VonBehrens finished with an RBI.

The Hatchets opened up a 4-0 first inning lead then scored single runs in the second, fifth and six innings.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will celebrate Senior Night today playing host to Cumberland in a 4 p.m. contest.

At Strasburg

At Newton

Casey-Westfield moved into a 3-1 lead in the first inning but Newton came back in the second to tie the score. The Warriors then tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh to lead 5-3.

Newton mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh only to fall short.

Newton outhit Casey-Westfield by an 11-5 count. Addy O’Dell led the way for the Eagles with a single, double, home run and one RBI. Allie Stanley added three singles, Sally Mahaffey two singles and an RBI and Jorjia Reich a single and an RBI.

Amelia Collins threw a five-hitter with two walks and four strikeouts only to suffer the loss on the mound.

Casey-Westfield was led in hitting by Tristan Ring with a home run and two RBI, Lucy Moore with a single, double and an RBI and Alyson Truelove with two singles and an RBI.

Ava Goble picked up the pitching victory, going all seven innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits, no walks and striking out three.

Newton fell to 19-3 on the season.

At Hutsonville

This was a one-run game, but unfortunately for Altamont, the run was on the other side of the scoreboard as Hutsonville/Palestine claimed the win Monday.

Grace Lemke threw a one-hitter with three walks and 14 strikeouts but took the loss on the mound.

Altamont was led in hitting by Cecilia Pearcy with a double. Ella Nelson, Laila Hankins, Madison Tonn and Sophia Long had a single each.

Hayden Monan was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits, no walks and striking out seven.

Lily Holcomb had the lone hit for Casey-Westfield with a double.

At Hutsonville
