ROBINSON — Effingham High School had six out of 10 hits for extra bases and it paid off with an 8-4 victory over Robinson in softball competition Wednesday.

The Hearts’ Natalie Armstrong knocked out two solo home runs while Keagyn Koenig hit a homer with two RBI. Jerzi Bierman and Madison Kirk had a double and an RBI each while Alyssa martin added a double.

Meanwhile, Armstrong also went 5.1 innings on the mound. She did not give up a walk and struck out one.

The Hearts held a 1-0 lead in the second inning. But Robinson came back to move ahead 2-1 in the third.

Then EHS went on a four-run tear in the fourth, tacked on a single run in the second and finished with two in the seventh.

Robinson outhit the Hearts by a 10-9 count and EHS committed three errors but overcame those obstacles for the victory.

At Louisville

Effingham St. Anthony jumped on North Clay in the first inning, scoring six runs and went on to end this contest in the fourth inning by an 18-3 count.

The Bulldogs finished with a whopping 16 hits and were aided by seven North Clay errors.

Julia Schultz led the Bulldogs with two singles, a home run and three RBI. Camille Wines added a single, double and an RBI while Ava Walton finished with two doubles. Adysen Rios had two single and an RBI. Lilly Gannaway, Ava Faber and Livia Jansen had a single and two RBI each. Nancy Ruholl and Chloe Kelley finished with a single and an RBI each and Jackie Vonderheide and Johnson finished with an RBI each.

Ruholl went three innings on the mound. She did not give up a hit, allowed only one walk while striking out seven.

North Clay was led by Leigha Ruesken and Mallory Boose with a single and an RBI each. Ava Zimmerman added an RBI.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 2-1 lead on Moweaqua Central A&M and went on to claim an 8-3 victory Wednesday.

The Hatchets tallied a single run in the third and finished with five in the fifth.

Samantha Hayes kept Central A&M off the bases. She allowed two hits and struck out 11.

Hayes also aided her own cause offensively with two singles, a double and three RBI. Mya Friese added two singles and Clarissa Johnson had a single and two RBI. Zaida Wascher and Ellie Wittenberg finished with a single and an RBI each.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown had runners cross the plate 16 times in a 16-2 win over Ramsey in five innings Thursday.

The Eagles took a 5-1 opening inning lead then added on nine in the second and two in the third.

SEB had only five hits but drew 13 walks while Ramsey finished with three errors.

Madi Miller had two singles and four RBI to lead the Eagles. Alivia Claycomb added a single and three RBI while Alexis Holliday had two RBI. Cami Haslett and Callie Ledbetter had a single and an RBI each. Macey Sapp and Addison Koonce finished with an RBI each.

Holliday went 2.1 innings for the win on the mound. She gave up one run on one hit, one walk and struck out one. Dayana Haslett came on to finish out 2.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, one walk and striking out four.

At St. Elmo

At Flora

Flora brought home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to edge South Central, 2-1 Thursday.

Both teams had six hits. Flora was led by L. Jones with two singles, a home run and an RBI and H. Kitley with a double and an RBI.

South Central was led by Maddie Peddicord with a double and Kinley Thompson with a single and an RBI.

Peddicord also was the winning pitcher. She went 6.1 innings, allowing six hits, gave up one walk and struck out six.
