 St. Anthony Pulls Out Win Over Newton, Area Softball Roundup — April 14

NEWTON — Effingham St. Anthony trailed Newton through six innings before scoring four runs to pull out a 4-3 high school softball victory Tuesday.

The Eagles tallied a run in the fourth inning then tacked on two more in the fifth.

But, here came the Bulldogs. St. Anthony put together a four-run seventh for the win.

St. Anthony finished with six hits led by Lilly Gannaway with two singles, Claire Kinkelaar with a single and two RBI and Emeline Wines with an RBI.

Nancy Ruholl went the distance on the mound. She gave up three runs on seven hits, one walk and struck out four.

Newton had seven hits led by Audria Reich with two singles and an RBI and Paige Wagner with two singles.

At Newton

At Toledo

Cumberland put together an 11-hit attack and claimed an 11-1 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in five innings Tuesday.

Ashton Tolen led the way for the Pirates in hitting with three singles and an RBI while Lauren Schnepper added a single, triple and two RBI. Jude Miller finished with a double, Kinley McMechan added two singles and an RBI and Jade Carr a single and two RBI.

The Pirates are a perfect 5-0 in the National Trail Conference and 10-6 overall.

CHBC finished with three hits led by Ryleigh Sarver with a single and an RBI and Allison Shields and Brylie Prater with a single each.

Mia Holsapple went the five innings, giving up one run on three hits, one walk and striking out four as she took the win on the mound.

At St Elmo

South Central finished with 14 hits and tallied a 15-1 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown in six innings Tuesday.

The Cougars edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and led 2-0 after two and 4-1 after three. South Central then had a four-run fourth and ended the game with a seven-run sixth.

Lauren Johnson had a home run and three RBI for the winners while Emily Rose had two singles, a double and three RBI. Kinlee Thompson added a single, double and an RBI, Emmie Ruholl a double and an RBI, Addy Ruholl two singles and an RBI and Maddie Peddicord two singles. Annie Ruholl and Aubrey Sullens finished with a single and an RBI each.

Johnson also picked up the pitching victory. She went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits, two walks and striking out five.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led in hitting by Cami Haslett with a double, Kadence Speagle with two singles and Dayana Haslett with a single and an RBI.

At Altamont

Ramsey moved into a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth but Altamont came right back to knot the score in Tuesday action.

But, Ramsey ended up with the 6-4 victory scoring two runs in the top of the eighth.

Altamont outhit the Rams by two. Laila Hankins and Kennedi Schultz had a double each. Hankins added an RBI. Sophia Long fnished with two singles and two RBI and Haley Arend two singles. Cecilia Pearcy finished with a single and an RBI.

Long went eight innings, giving up six runs on six hits, four walks and striking out eight for the pitching win.

At Altamont

North Clay edged Grayville by a 13-12 count Tuesday.

The Cardinals improved to 2-9 on the season and is back in action Friday against Neoga at 4:30 p.m.

 

At Strasburg

This game went 10 innings before Mattoon put up a 7-5 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-
Strasburg Tuesday.

The score was tied at 3-3 after three innings. Windsor/Stew-Stras moved into a 4-3 lead in the sixth. Mattoon tied in the top of the seventh. Both teams then scored single runs in the ninth before Mattoon won with two runs in the 10th.

Windsor/Stew-Stras had 10 hits led by Claire Holland and Kinsley Dunaway with two singles and an RBI each. Mya Friese and Arora Rincker had two singles each. Cameron Carey added a single and two RBI while Kendra Hayes had a single and an RBI.

The Hatchets finished with five errors.

Robinson came calling and captured an 11-1 victory over Dieterich by the 10-run rule Tuesday.

Dieterich held a 1-0 lead in the opening inning. But Robinson came back with two in the third and never looked back, ending this game in the sixth via the 10-run rule.

The Maroons had two hits led by Lydia Wohltman with a single and an RBI and Kinley Will with a single.
