 Cumberland Wins In Five Innings Via 10-Run Rule, St. Anthony, SEB Drop Softball Losses

TOLEDO — Cumberland and Oblong didn’t score through the first three innings of a high school softball game Wednesday.

But Cumberland finally broke loose with a vengeance, scoring nine runs in the fourth and adding one in the fifth to end the game 10-0 via the 10-run rule.

The Pirates banged out 11 hits led by Ashton Tolen with a single, double and an RBI, Jade Carr and Ava Long with two singles and an RBI each, Mia Holsapple with a single and two RBI, Kinley McMechan with two singles and an RBI, Lauren Schnepper with a single and an RBI and Kada Miles with an RBI.

Miles went the five innings on the mound. She gave up no runs on two hits, one walk and struck out two.

At Toledo

At Charleston

Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Charleston and fell to the Trojans by a 12-4 count Wednesday.

Charleston edged into a 3-2 opening quarter lead then tacked on two in the second. The Bulldogs came back with a run in the top of the third but Charleston retaliated with seven in the bottom of the third.

St. Anthony made a comeback attempt in the top of the seventh but could only bring one run across.

St. Anthony had seven hits in the contest led by Julia Schultz with a solo home run, Mallory Litz with a triple and Jackie Vonderheide with two singles and an RBI.

At St. Elmo

Hutsonville/Palestine came calling and blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown by an 11-0 score in five innings Wednesday.

The Tigers moved into a 5-0 first inning lead then added on two in the second and three in the third. They ended the game with one in the fifth.

Hutsonville/Palestine had eight hits led by Kendra Alumbaugh with a single and double, Claire Anderson with a double snd two RBI and Tiffany Traxler with two singles and two RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown’s lone hit was a single by Auni Wollin.
