 North Clay/Clay City, WSS, Newton, Dieterich, Teutopolis, Cumberland Win In Softball Action

LOUISVILLE — North Clay/Clay City and Wayne City were tied at 5-5 in the seventh inning Thursday.

Then came the drama. With one on, Lauryn Snell singled scoring the winning run as the Cardinals pulled out a 6-5 victory.

Both teams had eight hits. Wayne City finished with three errors and North Clay/Clay City did not have an error.

Snell not only hit well with two singles and two RBI, she also picked up the mound victory, going all seven innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out 10.

Also finishing strong offensively was Ava Zimmerman who had two singles and an RBI. Leigha Ruesken had the lone extra base hit with a double. Avery Romack and Autumn Sullens added a single and an RBI each.

North Clay/Clay City will be back in action today when the team hits the road to Cumberland.

At Louisville

At Flora

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a 5-3 win over Flora Thursday.

The Hatchets moved into a 1-0 lead in the second inning then tacked on another run in the third. They held a 3-0 lead through six innings before Flora knotted the score with a three-run bottom of the seventh.

But Windsor/Stew-Stras didn’t let any grass grow until their collective feet. The Hatchets came back in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs to pull out the victory.

The Hatchets finished with 11 hits in the contest led by Kinsley Dunaway with a single, double, home run and three RBI, Kendra Hayes with three singles, Makenna Corrie with two singles and an RBI and Cameron Carey with a single and an RBI.

Kalia Friese came on to toss the final two innings for the win. She gave up three runs on three hits and walked one. Kendra Hayes went six innings allowing no runs on three hits, one walk while striking out three.

At Flora

At Vandalia

Newton started the softball season with a bang, blanking Vandalia by a 15-0 count in five innings Thursday.

The Eagles ripped out to a 6-0 first inning lead then added on two in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and ended the game with one in the fifth.

Newton had a whopping 18 hits in the contest. Jacee Dhom had a big game with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Audrie Reich added two singles, a double and an RBI. Kahlyn McGrath added a single and triple while Jossie Stanley had two singles and an RBI. Jorjia Reich added two singles while Kraegan Groves, Claire Probst, Allie Hermann, Lexie Ghast and Emma Brooks finished with a single and an RBI each.

Karly Deckard went three innings for the win on the mound. She gave up one hit, one walk and struck out four.

At Vandalia

At Dieterich

It was a five-run first inning for Dieterich as the Maroons went on for an 11-1 victory over Red Hill in five innings Thursday.

Dieterich led 5-1 in the first, 6-1 in the second and tallied four runs in the third and one more in the fourth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

The Maroons finished the game with 12 hits. Kinley Will led the way with a single, double, triple and two RBI. Callie Faller, Lydia Wohltman and K. Stortzum had two singles and an RBI each. Addi Huber had a single and drove in two runs while Lexie Funneman and Aliza Garner had a single and an RBI each. Claire Faller finished with an RBI.

Allison Boerngen picked up the pitching win. She went four innings, allowing one run on three hits, one walk while striking out five.

At Dieterich

With a 12-hit attack, Teutopolis High School handed Paris a 5-1 loss in Thursday action.

The Wooden Shoes and the Tigers were tied at 1-1 after three innings. But T-town came back with two runs in the fifth and finished scoring with a run in the sixth.

T-town outhit Paris by a 12-3 count. Malea Helmink had a single and hit a solo home run. Chloe Hoene had three singles and an RBI while Lauren Shue finished with a single and double. Alyssa Tipton and Kylie Borries added a single and an RBI each.

Tipton took the mound victory, going all seven innings. She struck out 13 in the contest and gave up one run on three hits and three walks.

At Teutopolis

At St. Elmo

Cumberland was a big winner over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

The Pirates finished the game by an 18-0 count.

Kada Miles led the way in hitting with two singles and six RBI while Jade Carr added two singles, a double and three RBI. Jude Miller had a single, double and an RBI, Lauren Schnepper had a double, Ashton Tolen finished with a single and two RBI. Ashton Tolen added a single and two RBI.

Mia Holsapple went four innings giving up only one hit. She did not walk a batter and had four strikeouts.

Cumberland’s defense played without committing an error behind Holsapple.

Cumberland is 2-0 overall and returns to action today hosting North Clay
