SHELBYVILLE — Shelbyville opened the high school softball season by edging St. Elmo/Brownstown, 9-7 Wednesday.
SEB scored all seven of its runs in the third inning to move into a 7-4 lead.
But Shelbyville came back within 7-6 in the fourth inning then put the game away with a three-run sixth.
Both teams had 10 hits while SEB finished with five errors and Shelbyville four.
St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Auni Wollin with a single, double and an RBI, Cami Haslett with a double and Izzy Orr with two RBI. Dayana Haslett, Macey Sapp and Brooklyn Landrus had a single and an RBI each and Callie Ledbetter added an RBI.
Kadence Speagle went the distance, giving up 10 hits, walking five while striking out eight.
Claire Canada led Shelbyville with two singles, a double and two RBI while Kenzie Jones had two singles and four RBI, Alexis Jokisch a single and double and Aylah Logan a double.
