Effingham Junior High School downed visiting Taylorville by a 10-2 count in softball action Thursday.

The Mustangs and Tornadoes played to a 2-2 opening inning tie. Effingham moved ahead 3-2 in the third, tacked on one more in the fifth and had three-run innings in the sixth and seventh.

Anna Gouchenouer had the big bat on the day with a single, three home runs and three RBI. Effingham finished with 12 hits. Madalyn Hoffman added a single, two triples and an RBi while Tinley Patton contributed three singles and two RBI. Mia Hartke and Mackynzie Hites added a single and an RBI each.

Chloie Bailey started on the mound for the Mustangs and earned the win. She went the first three innings, giving up two runs on three hits, one walk and striking out four. Kendyl Smith came on to toss the final four innings. She gave up two hits, two walks and struck out three.

At Neoga

Neoga bounced North Clay by a 17-7 count in five innings Thursday.

North Clay held a 2-1 opening inning lead before Neoga tied in the second. North Clay then moved back in to a 7-2 lead in the third inning. However, Neoga tallied 14 runs in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on a final run in the fifth.

Bliss Bear hit a home run and finished with two RBI while Mackie White had a triple and two RBI. Kinzie Bell finishied with a single and three RBI, Isabelle Habing two singles and an RBI and Audrina Vilchez two RBI.

North Clay was led by Leighna Mainer with a single, double and an RBI, Finley Jones two singles and an RBI and Gabby Blair and Hadley Mitchell with a single and an RBI each.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a 12-4 win over Altamont Thursday.

WSS moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead and finished strong. The Hatchets had 11 hits led by Miranda Corrie with two singles, a double and three RBI, Gia Bostedo a solo home run, Reese Stigers a double, Gracyn Montgomery three singles and KJ Althoff a single and an RBI. Ava Schultz added a single and two RBI while Callie Holland, Tessa Shafer and Xoey Hoedebecke had an RBI each.

Altamont had seven hits. Blaire Suckow had two singles while Teegan Burrus and Olivia Bowman had a single and an RBI each.

Holland picked up the pitching win. She went four innings, giving up one run, four hits, one walk while striking out six.

South Central played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and sent the visitors home with a 16-1 loss in three innings Thursday.

Claire Chasteen tossed a no-hitter for the win. She allowed one run, one walk while striking out four. Rylan Williams went the last inning with two strikeouts.

Skylar Webster had a home run and four RBI for the winners. Alexa Gile had a triple and two RBi while Chasteen added a double, Lexy Garrett two singles and two RBI and Bella McDowell and Jayda Neilson a single and two RBI each.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City’s Anna Hart had the lone RBI of the contest and Rhilynn Miller drew a walk for the only two baserunners.
