 Junior High Softball Results — August 28

The Effingham Junior High School softball team continues to roll along. The 10th victim was Paris Crestwood Thursday as the Mustangs came through with a run in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 5-4 victory.

The Mustangs held a 1-0 opening inning lead but Crestwood tied in the second and moved into a 3-1 lead in the fourth and led 4-2 in the fifth. Effingham came back with two in the bottom of the seventh to knot the score at 4-4 then won in the eighth.

Anna Gouchenouer and Cloie Bailey provided the big hits. Gouchenouer had a single double, home run and two RBI while Bailey had a double and triple. Liv Lauritzen contribute two singles and drove in two runs.

Kendyl Smith came on in the sixth inning to throw a no-hitter with one walk while striking out five to hold the Eagles.

Sophia Wiedman went five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, two walks while striking out 10.

The Mustangs are now 10-0 on the season and will be back in action Saturday at the Teutopolis Round Robin facing T-town at 10 a.m. and Flora at 11:30.

At Strasburg

Cumberland came calling and edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 4-3 in eight innings Thursday.

The Hatchets moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead. Cumberland pushed ahead with two in the top of the third but Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with two in the bottom of the fifth.

Cumberland then tied in the seventh and the game went into the eighth where the Raiders won.

There were only first names listed for Cumberland.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Reese Stigers with a single and double, Miranda Corrie with a double and an RBI and Gracyn Montgomery with a double.

South Central moved into a 5-0 opening inning lead and went on to bounce Patoka by a 17-2 count in three innings Thursday.

The Falcons finished with 17 hits and were aided by five Patoka errors.

Lexy Garrett had two singles, two doubles and drove in three runs while Claire Chasteen and Alexa Gile had two singles, a double and three RBI each, Rylan Williams had a single, triple and three RBI and Jayda Neilson two double and two RBI.

Williams picked up the pitching win. She went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, three walks and striking out five.

At Kinmundy

St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed a 14-7 victory over North Clay Thursday.

SEB trailed North Clay by a 4-1 count after the opening inning. The Eagles came back within 4-3 in the fourth inning then moved into an 8-4 lead in the top of the fifth and tacked on four more in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The winners had eight hits led by Ella Lach with a single and double while N. Feller had a double and two RBI. Kimber Tritt had a single and three RBI, Macie Abendroth two singles. Parker Haslett and Rylin Pruett had a single and an RBI each and Mabry Booher an RBI.

North Clay was led by Gabby Blair with a single, double and an RBI and Harper Casolari, Hadley Mitchel and Finley Jones with a single and an RBI each.

St. John’s Lutheran handed Neoga a 13-3 loss behind a 16-hit attack Thursday.

St. John’s edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead and added on two in the third, one in the fifth, six in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Neoga had three hits, singles by Nora Hartke, Ellie Plummer and Kelly Will. Hartke and Plummer had an RBI each while Kinzie Bell also had an RBI.

Pana broke free in the third inning, scoring 11 runs and went on for an 11-1 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday in five innings.
