TEUTOPOLIS — Effingham broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run second and went on for an 8-1 junior high softball victory over Teutopolis Wednesday.

Cloie Bailey kept the Wooden Shoes off the bases. She went the distance on the mound striking out 13. She gave up only one run on three hits and did not issue a walk.

The Mustangs moved ahead 3-1 in the second and 4-1 in the third. They then added on three more in the fourth and finished with one in the sixth.

Madalyn Hoffman hit a solo home run while Bailey and Liv Lauritzen had a single, triple and two RBI each. Kendyl Smith had a single, double and an RBI and Mackynzie Hites a single and an RBI.

The Wooden Shoes finished with three hits, singles by Emily Murray, Kennedi Hartke and Sophia Grunloh.

Flora came calling and handed St. Anthony a 16-1 loss in five innings Wednesday.

Flora edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead then tallied four runs in the second and fifth and six in the fourth.

St. Anthony had only three hits and finished with six errors. Reagan Niebrugge had a double and Isabelle McDonald had an RBI.

North Clay edged Iuka, 15-14 in a high-scoring contest Wednesday.

North Clay improved to 3-7 on the season and is back in action today against Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4;30 p.m.
