Effingham St. Anthony fell to a tough Hillsboro squad in high school soccer competition Wednesday by a 6-1 count.
The lone Bulldogs goal was by Michael Wright, a senior, who scored from a direct free kick.
“We held well on the first half but then the injuries and sickness started to take a toll on the team,” said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes.
Hillsboro improved to 6-2 on the season while St. Anthony dropped to 0-3-1.
The junior varsity Bulldogs ended up with a 1-1 tie with a goal from Michael Fearday.
St. Anthony was to host Decatur St. Teresa Saturday but that match has been canceled. The Bulldogs won’t be back in action until Tuesday hosting Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond at 4:30 p.m.
