 Effingham Blanks St. Anthony In Soccer Competition

Effingham High School blanked Effingham St. Anthony 9-0 in soccer competition Wednesday.

The Hearts’ Maicol Sefton scored four goals and provided two assists. Andrew Wagoner scored two goals and had one assist. Connor Delong also scored two goals. Sebastian Simoni scored one goal. Jake Niebrugge provided the other two assists.

“This game extended our record to 5-0-1 with four clean sheets,” said EHS Coach Logan Arney. “We play our first home game today against Vandalia t 4:30 p.m. Come out and support your Effingham soccer team.”

“Even with a loss this big, we played well,” said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. “We have a lot of areas to improve but I’m proud of the progress we made. We are more organized and the players are understanding the new system. Everyone worked hard.”

In the junior varsity game, Effingham was a 3-1 winner.
