MAHOMET — Effingham High School kicked off the Apollo Conference soccer season with a 2-2 tie against Mahomet-Seymour Tuesday.
The Hearts’ Maicol Sefton scored both goals.
“Goalkeeper Brady Wilson had another impressive performance with seven saves, including one penalty kick save,” said EHS Coach Logan Arney.
The Hearts are heading across town to Effingham St. Anthony for a Wednesday contest. They will then host Vandalia Thursday.
“Come out and support your Hearts,” said Coach Arney. “Especially for our first home game Thursday.”
At Altamont
Altamont easily handled Vandalia by a 9-0 count Tuesday.
“The sun was shining and the temps were decent,” said Altamont Coach Eric Morales. “We spent no time getting the first goal at four minutes on a PK from a handball.
“Vandalia came out strong and played a great game, taking every opportunity they could. But fortunately for us, we played strong and solid, finishing the game by winning 9-0.”
Aiden Rosales and Cooper Pals scored three goals each for the Indians.
Cooper Pals opened the scoring, hitting net on a PK.
Mason Suey then scored on a pass from Ashton Buchanan.
Rosales scored his three goals in a row. He hit net on a pass from Cooper Pals. He scored the next goal unassisted and the third goal on a pass from Buchanan.
Cooper Pals scored his second goal on a pass from Zach Reyes and then tallied the eighth goal unassisted.
Micah Tenpenny scored the seventh goal unassisted and Chase Pals finished out the scoring on an unassisted goal.
At Teutopolis
Teutopolis won its home opener over Charleston at both the varsity and junior varsity levels Tuesday.
The varsity Shoes won 3-0. The first goal of the night was scored by Isaac McWhorter, assisted by Gavin Pals. Tucker Dhom hit net on the second goal, assisted by Simon Lee. The third and final goal was scored by Lee, assisted by Dhom.
Goalkeepers Jake Kocher and Barrett Meyer split the match and the clean sheet.
The varsity squad is now 3-1-1 on the season.
The junior varsity team won its first game of the season, 4-0.
Grant Tegeler tallied the first goal assisted by Tommy Habing.
The second goal was scored by Habing, assisted by Mark Probst. The third goal was an own goal by Charleston.
The fourth and final goal was scored by Probst with an assist by Julien Blim.
Both squads will travel to Mount Vernon Saturday for the next matches. Varsity start time is 11 a.m. with the junior varsity to follow.
