Effingham High School defeated Newton by a score of 2-0
“It was a hard fought game with a total of four yellow cards handed out,” said EHS Coach Logan Arney. “We came through the physical game with heads held high accomplishing our first clean sheet due to Brady Wilson’s four important saves and Maicol Sefton’s two goals, one of which was assisted by Sebastian Simoni.
“The team is playing very well so far this season. There is a lot of excitement around the team this year. We go back to Charleston to wrap up the Red & Gold Tournament Saturday with our first game against St. Thomas More at 11:30. If we win that game, we will go on to play for first place against the winner of Olney or Mattoon at 2:30.”
