SPRINGFIELD — Altamont’s Kyle Husted was a winner in the Illinois State Fair Colt Stakes Championship Three-Year-Old Fillies Pace with a purse of $35,000 Thursday at the Illinois State Fair harness racing.
Husted, who is also the trainer, guided Thebeautifulthings to victory in 1:52 1/5.
Casey Leonard had a good day at the fair, guiding five horses to victory. He opened in the very first race of the day, the Colt Stakes Consolation Two-Year-Old Fillies Trot, behind Broadway And Lou. He led the filly to the victory in 2:01 4/5.
Then he guided Next to a win in the fourth race, the Consolation Two-Year-Old Fillies Pace. The duo crossed the finish line in 1:55.
Leonard picked up his third driving victory in the fifth race of the Colt Stakes Championship Two-Year-Old Fillies Trot. He won behind Shady Maple Chick in 1:55 for a purse of $40,000. He had a second time of finishing in 1:55.
Race nine, the Championship Three-Year-Old Fillies Trot, with a purse of $35,000, also went to Leonard. This time he drove Lou’s My Number to victory in 1:54.2.
His fifth win came in the Championship Three-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Pace for $35,000. Cash Money Twenty won for Leonard in 1:51 2/5.
