SHELBYVILLE — Windsor High School’s Myles Verdeyen, Hayden Porter and Heath Westendorf won the Illinois High School Association State Bass Fishing Tournament at Lake Shelbyville during the weekend.
The event began Friday and finished out Saturday.
The Windsor fishermen finished the opening day with five fish caught weighing 10 pounds 6 ounces. Saturday’s weigh-in produced five fish caught weighing 14 pounds, 8 ounces for a grand total of eight fish caught weighing 24 pounds, 14 ounces for the victory.
Windsor edged out second and third place finishers who ended with 23 pounds, 1 ounce each.
The Newton No. 1 team of Kyson Bradley, Lain Burgener, Alex Gier and Garrett Bradley finished fifth with a total of 10 fish caught weighing 21 pounds, 15 ounces while Teutopolis’ Brody Thoele and Brady Bloemer finished sixth with 10 fish caught, weighing 21 pounds three ounces.
Newton No. 2 took ninth place with eight fish caught weighing 20 pounds, 2 ounces and team members were Gunner James, Landon Kirts, Beau Bennett and Evan Johnson.
Effingham’s Kade Sarver, Caden Loew and Kylie Harminson finished 34th with six fish caught weighing 10 pounds.
There were 61 teams competing in the State Tournament.
