Coach Phil Zaccari
On July 1, the National High School Athletic Coaches Association announced its National High School Coaches of the Year at a banquet held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Coralville, IA.
The highlight of the banquet is the naming of the NHSACA national coach of the year in 19 recognized sports categories. St Anthony High School boys golf coach, Philip Zaccari was one of only eight finalists for the National High School Golf Coach recognition.
Owen Burch from Montana was recognized as the National High School golf Coach of the Year for his 41 years of service and success to the sport of golf.
Coach Zaccari was nominated for this national honor by the Illinois Coaches Association. This selection was based on longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years and winning percentage.
The nominees and finalists are evaluated by experts in the field of coaching using a sport-specific rubric to assign points in each category.
The National High School Athletic Coaches Association is the oldest coaches association in the nation, formed by coaches, for coaches, and has been recognizing national coaches of the year since 1978.
