 St. Anthony Wins John Macek Boys Golf Invite, Claims Lady Trojan Scramble, Golf Roundup

CHAMPAIGN — Effingham St. Anthony claimed the championship of the John Macek Boys Golf Invitational Monday at the University of Illinois Blue Course.

The Bulldogs scored a 292 followed by Teutopolis 297, Champaign Central 298, Effingham 308, Champaign St. Thomas More 310, Lincoln 313, Charleston 323, Bloomington 330, Monticello 334, Sullivan 343, Urbana 349, Danville 360 and Altamont 366. Not scoring was Centennial.

Medalist for the event was Teutopolis High School’s Coen Pennington with a 69. Second went to St. Anthony’s Logan Gowin with a 37-33 — 70.

Also scoring for St. Anthony were Drake Brown 38-35 — 73, Alec Hakman 36-38 — 74 and Maddux Clark 39-36 — 75. Briggs Whitley had a 40-38 — 78 and James Trupiano 44-39 — 83. Individuals were Jameson McAllaster 41-39– 80 and Liam McAllaster 42-41– 83.

The Wooden Shoes  set a new school record with a 297. Along with Pennington scoring were Issac Weber tied for fifth with a 73, Kade Pennington with a 77 while Owen Kremer had a 78, Matthew Habing 81 and Landyn Thoele 85. Lane Ohnesorge had a 78 and Eli Weber 79 as individuals.

Effingham’s Leo Wyckoff finished 10th with a 75. Jack Swingler had a 78, Jude Traub a 79 and Cannon Bockhorn an 80. Brody Boehm added an 83.

Altamont was led by Evan Elam with an 82. Also scoring were Henry Niermann 80, Hunter Grobengieser 85 and Harrison Lash 87. Non-countering were Kamryn Wolfert 90 and Mason Schaub 93.

 

At Sandoval

In junior varsity competition at Sandoval, Teutopolis placed third in the quad with a 172. Drew Kirby led the Shoes with a 41 followed by Ben Sandschafer 43, Jack Weber 43, Landon Huber 45,  Carter Mette 45, Gavin Althoff 46, Karsen Zerrusen 50 and Xavier Schumacher 53.

Sandoval (varsity) won with 160 followed by Carlyle (varsity) 164, Teutopolis JV 172 and Altamont JV 237.

Altamont competitors were Joel Bauer 55, Garrett Flood 59, Cooper Hankins 59, Brock Wendling 64, Grant Suckow 65, Dayton Tabbert 69 and  Carter Boehm 72.

In the girls competition, Carlyle varsity 177, Teutopolis JV 198, Sandoval varsity 222 and Altamont varsity (three players) +62.

 

At Charleston

In the Lady Trojan Scramble, St. Anthony won with a 78.

Individual awards: Team One, Brooklyn Phillips/Tesa Ludwig finished third with a 38, Team Two, Gianna Frisbie and Adria Moberly, finished fifth with a score of 40.

Ludwig won longest putt with 34 feet for birdie and Frisbie won longest drive with a distance of 270 yards.

Effingham High School’s Ella Tuman and Makenna Mayhood were the winning twosome with an even par 36. The Hearts finished second as a team.

Kyle Pryor and Allison Kroenlein shot a 45 and  Addi Ruiz and Natalie Armstrong shot a 47.

 

At Olney

North Clay and Newton competed at the Richland Country Club.

In girls competition, Newton’s Haley Ochs was medalist with a 39. Also competing for Newton was Peyton Lindley sixth with a 48.  Competing for North Clay were Kennedy Jones third with 43 and Mackenzie Winterrowd fourth with 44.

In the boys competition, Richland County/Olney won with 155 followed by Red Hill/Lawrenceville 169, Newton 169, Casey-Westfield 171, Robinson 178 and North Clay competed but did not have enough for a team score.

Newton’s Michael Kennedy and Olney’s Ayden Nealis had a 36 each.

Also competing for Newton were Jack James fourth with 38, Nolen Cleaver 45, Jacob Oldham 50, Blaine Bergbower and Ajay McCann with a 51 each.

Competing for North Clay were Brodie Adair with a 43 and Jacob Arnold with a 54.
