Newton and Trenton Wesclin were tied at 7-7 after the opening quarter but Wesclin went on to have a 21-7 second period and win by a 35-28 tally Friday evening.
Newton actually had one more first down with 15 than Wesclin. The Warriors opened with an eight-yard touchdown. The extra point was good.
Newton tied the score when Drake Wolf took the ball from the four and carried it into the end zone. Henry Will kicked the extra point.
Trenton then tallied another opening quarter touchdown and scored twice more in the second quarter to lead 28-14 at halftime.
Newton’s Hayden Mulvey dropped back to the seven and threw a pass completion. Dexter Fulton ran the ball from the two into the end zone for the score. Will’s point after was good.
Newton’s Quincy Fulton scored the third touchdown in the third period. He ran the ball in for a 22 yard touchdown. The extra point by Will was good.
Trenton came back with a touchdown in the third quarter for its final of the game.
Newton scored again in the fourth as Fulton ran the ball from the four into the end zone. Will got the extra point but the Eagles fell 35-28.
Fulton had nine carries for 44 yards and two touchdowns. He also had seven receptions for 108 yards.
The Eagles defense was led by Maddox Horner with four solo tackles and three assists. He had one interception for 21 yards. Caleb Flasch had four solo tackles. Parker Shaffer had three solo tackles and three assists while Parker Harris had three solos and two assists.
