 Teutopolis, Newton Win, Will Now Meet For Robinson Regional Title

ROBINSON — Teutopolis and Newton both came out winners in the Class 2A Robinson Boys Basketball Regional Wednesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes downed Mount Carmel, 50-43.

T-town moved ahead 13-5 in the opening quarter as three-pointers rained on the basketball court. Isaac McWhorter hit a three-pointer and a free throw while Jake Probst, Landyn Buening and Davin Worman all hit from beyond the arc.

The Wooden Shoes then had a 14-12 second period edge to lead 27-17. McWhorter put in another three-pointer as did L. Buening, who also connected on two free throws.

Mount Carmel then fought back with a 15-10 third period to pull within 37-32 going into the final quarter.

The Golden Aces’ Shaine Meador scored six points while Wade Keepes, Elliott Acree and Blake Owen connected on a three-pointer each.

T-town got back on track with a 13-11 final period. Joey Probst, who hadn’t scored through the first three quarters, hit a three-pointer and two free throws for five while Gavin Addis connected on a three-pointer.

Only one player hit double figures for the Shoes while eight total players scored in the contest. McWhorter finished with four three-pointers and three of four at the line for 15. L. Buening chipped in with eight.

Meador ended with seven field goals, four from three-point range, and one of one at the line for 19 for the Aces.

Teutopolis advances to meet Newton at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship with the winner advancing to the Monticello Sectional March 3.

 

Newton 67, Salem 58

Newton moved into an 18-10 opening quarter lead and led 35-19 at halftime against Salem.

The Eagles went on to hold off the Wildcats for a 67-58 victory.

Salem came back with a 29-17 final quarter but couldn’t get over the hump.

Four players finished in double digits for the Eagles. Hayden Mulvey led the way with six three-pointers and two of two at the line for 20 points. Drake Wolf chipped in with 15 while Kody Bergbower added 14 and Lance Volk finished with 10.

The Eagles improved to 17-13 and are back in action Friday against Teutopolis for the Class 2A Robinson Regional championship at 7 p.m.
