 North Clay Beats South Central, Dieterich Pounds Grayville At Class 1A North Clay Regional

Three National Trail Conference teams competed in the Class 1A North Clay Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening.

Cody Zimdars put on a scoring performance as North Clay handed NTC opponent South Central a 61-31 loss.

Zimdars got the Cardinals off in the right direction, scoring seven points in the opening quarter as North Clay moved into an 11-4 lead.

Zimdars came on to add eight more in the second period for 15 by halftime. The Cardinals led 34-13.

North Clay finished out with a 21-18 second half.

Zimdars finished with 13 field goals and was four of six at the line for 30 points.

Lucas Griffy added 10 points while Kailen Atwood finished with nine. The Cardinals are now 23-8 on the season.

South Central was led by two players in double digits. Westin Neilson tallied 16 on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line and Brock Sigrist with 10.

In Game 4, Dieterich pounded Grayville, 74-49.

The Maroons edged into a 14-12 opening quarter lead. Jackson Icenogle hit two three-pointers.

Dieterich then had a 15-9 second period to lead 27-23 at halftime. Icenogle continued on with two regular baskets and a free throw for five points. Alex Schottman got into the scoring with two three-pointers and a two-pointer for eight.

The Maroons then took off in the second half, outscoring Grayville 23-14 in the third period to lead 50-37. Ezra Cook connected on a three-pointer, three regular baskets and a free throw for 10 points while Icenogle added on seven and A. Schottman hit his third three-pointer.

In the final quarter, Dieterich had a 24-12 run. Bryce Bohnhoff went to work with three baskets and a free throw for seven while Gavin Meinhart connected on a three-pointer and Icenogle added on six more points.

Icenogle and Cook provided the one-two scoring punch with 24 and 20 points respectively. A. Schottman added 15 and Bohnhoff 11. Icenogle put in eight field goals, three from beyond the arc, and was five of six at the line while Cook hit nine field goals, one a three-pointer and was one of one at the line.

In other games, Lawrenceville pounded Ramsey Co-op, 89-36 and Red Hill (Bridgeport) was an easy 71-56 winner over Patoka Co-op.

Tonight’s games include Lawrenceville against Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 6 p.m. followed by North Clay facing Dieterich at 7:30.
