OLNEY — Dieterich High School captured a victory over Richland County, Olney Saturday in boys basketball competition.
Bryce Bohnhoff got the Maroons started in the opening quarter, connecting on two baskets and two free throws for six points while Brock Niemerg hit a three and was two of two at the line for five. The Maroons moved ahead 11-4.
Dieterich pushed that to 20-10 at halftime. Niemerg hit two more baskets and Ezra Cook connected on a bucket and two free throws.
Olney played the Maroons even in the third quarter with each team scoring 10. Dieterich still held on to the lead in the third period going into the final quarter ahead 30-26.
In the final period, Niemerg connected on six of eight free throws and the Maroons put the game away with a 41-32 tally.
Niemerg hit four field goals, two from three-point range, and was eight of 10 at the line for 18 points. Cooke also finished in double figures with 10.

At Fairfield
Newton ran out to a 20-9 opening quarter lead but Fairfield pulled back within 29-22 at halftime.
Newton then went on a 19-11 third period run and claimed a 60-45 victory Saturday.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Kody Bergbower with nine field goals and five of six at the line for 23 points. Also in double digits were Hayden Mulvey with 11 and Drake Wolf with 10. Bergbower, Wolf and Jacob Oldham had four rebounds each.
Newton is now 14-12 on the season and returns to action Tuesday at Casey-Westfield.

At Louisville
North Clay edged visiting Robinson by a 71-69 tally Saturday evening.
The victory gives the Cardinals a 19-8 overall record. They return to action Tuesday at Red Hill.
North Clay also claimed the junior varsity contest, 61-51 but fell in freshman/sophomore action, 34-30.
At Altamont
Lawrenceville had an opening quarter 19-4 run and Altamont never recovered in a 54-44 loss Saturday.
Lawrenceville held a 29-11 halftime lead. Altamont did come back with a 33-25 second half but couldn’t make up that first quarter run by Lawrenceville.
Cooper McManaway scored 21 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of five at the line. He was the lone player in double digits.
Altamont was a 38-23 winner in junior varsity action. Carson Milleville led the winners with 17 points while Blake Berg added nine.

Meridian came to town and captured a 69-50 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Saturday.
Meridian moved into a 16-7 opening quarter lead and led 36-21 at halftime. They had a 15-11 third period.
Brown led the winners with 34 points
The Bobcats were led by Griffin Vaughn with 15 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer. Also in double figures was Hayden Sarver with 10.
