The Effingham High School girls basketball team has been crowned the Apollo Conference champions.
The Hearts bounced Taylorville by a 67-37 count Tuesday evening. EHS swept out to a 20-7 first quarter lead. Averie Wolfe connected on two three-pointers and a free throw for seven points while Tessa Raddatz added a three-pointer and Alylssa Martin had four points.
In the second quarter, the Hearts pushed their lead to 42-9 at halftime. Raddatz went wild from three-point range, scoring nine points while Drew Weis chipped in with four.
EHS continued on with a 22-12 third quarter run. Wolfe nailed two three-pointers, a regular basket and two free throws for 10 points while Martin hit two baskets and four free throws for eight.
Three players finished in double digits for EHS. Wolfe led the way with 19 points on six field goals, four from three-point range, and three of five at the line. Martin and Raddatz added 14 points each.
EHS finished the conference season at 10-0 and stands at 26-3 overall.
The Hearts won the junior varsity contest 69-61.
EHS is finishing out regular season play today, hosting Olney, Richland County.

At Paris
Brownstown/St. Elmo ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday evening. The Bombers fell to Paris by a 71-42 count.
The Bombers trailed by two points after the opening quarter, 15-13. Dayana Haslett put in a three-pointer and regular basket for five while Madi Miller added a three-pointer and Addie Sasse four points.
But the Tigers started to edge away with a 14-6 second period run to lead 29-19 at halftime. D. Haslett added another three-pointer and a free throw.
Paris then went into high scoring mode with a 24–7 third period run. M. Bicknell put in nine points while K. Edwards added two three-pointers.
Haslett scored six in the third quarter.
Paris then had an 18-16 final quarter. Miller hit three baskets and was three of three at the line for BSE with nine points while Presley Williams added a regular basket, a three-pointer and a free throw for six.
Haslett finished with 16 points on five field goals, three from beyond the arc, and three of five at the line. Miller added 13 on four field goals one a three-pointer and four of seven at the line.

At Cowden
Pana came calling and picked up a 74-55 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday evening.
Brooke Cox got the Panthers off to a 20-15 opening quarter lead and led 41-28 at halftime. CHBC was within 56-43 going into the final quarter but Pana finished with an 18-12 lead.
Lena Bowlin tallied 22 points for the Bobcats. She hit nine field goals and was four of four at the line. Also in double figures were Carissa Wakefield with 15 and Ethel Stuckemeyer with 10.
Pana was led by Cox with 25 points.

Dieterich moved into an 11-5 opening quarter lead and went on to beat North Clay by a 40-18 count Tuesday evening.
The Maroons had two players finish in double figures. Addison Miller tallied 11 points on four field goals, three of those three-pointers while Claire Faller hit five field goals and a free throw, also for 11.
North Clay dropped to 0-8 in the NTC and 5-24 overall.
