NEOGA — Cumberland defeated Effingham St. Anthony in the Neoga Freshman/Sophomore Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Cumberland edged out to an 8-7 opening quarter lead but the Bulldogs came back with an 18-14 second period to lead 25-22 at halftime.

St. Anthony had a 10-9 third period edge but the Pirates came back with 12-7 run to pull out the 43-42 victory.

G. Wormhoudt led Cumberland with 14 points while R. Walker added 10.

St. Anthony was led by Mason Storm with 13 points.

Effingham competed in the Hillsboro Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Effingham defeated Taylorville 68-42. The Hearts took a 20-11 opening quarter lead and led 57-21 at halftime.

The Hearts were led by Dagg Thompson with 22, Joel Flack with 13 and Bryce Hodges with 10.

In the second game, Effingham beat Greenville 69-52.

The Hearts were led by Thompson with 22 points, Flack with 13 and Hodges with 10.
