 Bulldogs Win, Hearts, Wooden Shoes Lose In Girls High School Basketball

PANA — Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Pana Saturday for high school girls basketball action and came away with a 60-48 victory.

The Bulldogs’ Ali Kollmann scored three baskets in the opening quarter 10-5 run.

In the second period, Nancy Ruholl and Addie Lauritzen put in two baskets and a free throw each for five points and the Bulldogs led 28-23 at halftime.

The Bulldogs then decided to put the game away in the third quarter with a 27-11 run. Ruholl hit two baskets and was three of three at the line for seven points while Kollman added to her total with six points and Lauritzen put in three baskets, also for six points. Avery Henning knocked in a three pointer and two free throws for five.

Three players hit double figures for the Bulldogs. Ruholl finished with 17 on five field goals and five of five at the free throw line. Kollmann added 16 points while Lauritzen added 13. Kollmann led in rebounds with 11. Ruholl had seven assists. Gannaway led in steals with three.

At Mount Carmel

Mount Carmel played host to Effingham in high school girls basketball action Saturday and went overtime to beat the Hearts, 63-62.

The Golden Aces edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter lead. Effingham’s Tessa Raddatz hit two three-pointers while Averie Wolfe also connected from beyond the arc.

EHS came back with a slight 16-15 second period to trail 29-27 at halftime. Wolfe hit three baskets for six points while Maci Hayes also connected for six points. EHS was five of five at the free throw line.

The two teams played to a 10-10 third quarter before the Hearts came back with a 19-16 final period to knot the score at 55-55 sending the game into overtime.

Mount Carmel then had an 8-4 overtime run to pull out the victory.

The Hearts had three players finish in double figures. Wolfe led the way with 16 points on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and two of five at the free throw line. Raddatz chipped in with 15 points, Hayes 14 and Martin 11.

The loss dropped the Hearts to 23-3 on the season. They will return to action Tuesday hosting Mount Zion in Apollo Conference action.

At Teutopolis

Breese Central came calling and handed Teutopolis a 59-39 loss Saturday.

The Cougars ran out to a 20-4 opening quarter lead as T-town’s only points came from Malea Helmink with a regular basket and two free throws.

The Wooden Shoes had a slight 16-12 second quarter to trail 32-20 at halftime. Allie Ruholl put in two baskets.

T-town then had a 16-14 third quarter edge but still trailed by 14 going into the final quarter where Breese Central had an 11-5 run.

T-town did not have a player in double figures. Mallory Bloemer hit eight of eight from the line for eight points while Sophia Martin connected on three baskets, two of those from beyond the arc, also for eight.

Bloemer led in rebounds with five. Helmink had three steals.
