ALTAMONT — Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Effingham St. Anthony claimed victories in Friday evening’s National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament.
Windsor/Stew-Stras opened the evening with a 76-42 win over South Central. The Hatchets raced out to a 23-6 opening quarter lead. Wyatt Wetherell connected on three baskets, one a three-pointer and was two of two at the line for nine points while Brody Bible scored three baskets and two free throws for eight in the quarter. Koy Morris and Seth Rincker knocked in a three-pointer each.
The lead went to 47-19 at halftime. Wetherell continued on with nine points while Auston Rahn and Jakob Gurgel had a three-pointer each.
Eli Hiestand led the Cougars with five points in the quarter.
The Hatchets continued on with a 23-15 third quarter. Wetherell added on a regular basket and two three-pointers and Tyler Vonderheide scored 12.
Wetherell finished as the scoring leader for the Hatchets with 28 points on eight field goals, four from three-point range, and six of six at the line. Also in double figures was Bible with 14.
South Central was led by Westin Neilson with 14 points on four field goals, one a three-pointer ,and five of five at the line. Aiden Hoover tallied 11.
Effingham St. Anthony captured the second contest, this one over Dieterich by a 61-36 tally.
The Bulldogs ran out to an 18-7 opening quarter lead and led 31-11 at halftime.
Miles Waldhoff hit four baskets, two from beyond the arc, for 10 points in the opening quarter 18-7 run.
Keenan Griffith nailed two three-pointers in the second quarter as the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 31-11 at halftime.
Waldhoff continued on with eight in the third quarter and finished with 23 to lead the Bulldogs. He hit 10 field goals, three from beyond the arc for his 23 points. Griffith also finished in double digits with 13.
Dieterich as led by Brock Niemerg with 22 points. He connected on four field goals, two from three-point range, and was 12 of 15 at the line.
