 St. Anthony Wins Own Class 7-2A Boys Basketball Sectional, Headed To State

Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School stepped out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead on Dieterich in its own Class 7-2A Boys Basketball Sectional Monday evening.

The Bullpups’ Ryan Wohltman hit a basket and was three of four at the line for five points while Brooks Niebrugge connected on a three-pointer.

Dieterich’s basket came from Chase Bohnhoff.

The Roadrunners came back with a 10-8 second quarter and trailed St. Anthony 22-12 at halftime. Bohnhoff was the lone player scoring with three baskets, two coming from three-point range, and two of two at the line.

But the Bullpups came out after halftime with a 10-5 run to lead 32-17. Nash Hoene put in three baskets for six points.

St. Anthony finished with an 8-5 final period as James GIlmore connected on a three-pointer.

The Bullpups were led by Hoene with 12 points on five field goals and two free throws. Gilmore finished with nine on three two-pointers and a three-pointer.

Dieterich was led by Bohnhoff with 15 points on four field goals, two of those three-pointers and two free throws.

St. Anthony improved to 22-1 and is now headed to the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Macon Meridian. The Bullpups will meet Decatur Robertson (18-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
